Here is a tip for you newbies to the world of football betting that will help you in your quest to have a winning football season.

Find the OPENERS from a top shelf book(CRIS openers can be found on the RX live lines feed) and jot them all down on your sports schedules.

Now, as the week progresses update your lines 2-3 times a day, right up to the start of the game.

This simple task will give you a great understanding of the linemoves and will help you understand the art of certain linemoves a whole lot better as you begin to see things you never realized before.

As you become more sophisticated and refined in your line monitoring, you can add more and more to your LINESHEET that you can use to your advantage( add more sportsbooks, use more sheets themselves, use different colors, add circles and other designs that signify something, etc., etc).

The main thing though is that you should have at the very least is a reference tool that gives you the daily line moves that is at your side that you can quickly glance at and see the line moves with......... by doing all this by hand you will unquestionably begin to see things and learn things about a particular game that you would have never seen or thought of before.

Although at times this can become time consuming, the rewards and satisfaction of coming out on the BLACK side of the ledger will be all worth it.

nice article, Fish. I started doing this 2 years ago and it's sure paid off

A key to me is the early week movement (namely sunday night/monday), very crucial, as well as Sunday morning moves.

Bingo!

Then throw in a few MID-week moves to ponder as just that, MID-week moves, and you have the beginning essence of why monitoring these games daily is so important.

The people & degenerates, and their money there're gonna lose, who's bets move the line, don't play the game on Sunday.

How does the betting money affect the outcome on the field?

I think watching line movement is basically another way of encouraging line shopping, nothing more!

Fishhead.

So when the lines open and move are you looking for the biggest moving lines as plays? I will say that I use Olympic and if I see a line just 1 full point on the line or total I usually follow which has been good.

Olympic is a very sharp book where you can get some good info on the linemovements.

Is CRIS the very 1st book with the lines out and what is the time that they will release them.

If I remember correctly, it was about 6pm on Sunday (not including the Sunday night or Monday night participants)

I have been doing something simliar this month in bases (obviously a much shorter time. Couple hours apart and than up till first pitch).

It is just like day trading and I have done OK wih it (too early to tell). More or less just fading steam from openers. I am betting the peak number (best number ALL DAY), right before game time. If line moves 15 or so cents(on smller moneyline, higher on bigger monleyline prices).

Example:
Texas is -110/+100 versus Toronto at 9 AM this morning, I jot that down and than thru out day I keep my eye on the line if number movers up to -130 Texas than I take the dog (Toronto) at the best prcie I can find(usually +123- +126 @ Pinny or an exchange).

My thoughts on this are that I am getting the best price all day on a team that was considerably lower at openers and after public had all nite to hash out the number. Now the public has helped CREATE VALUE by hammering one side (this case Texas) all day long. Basically getting a +100 dog (by bookmakers and sharp overnite crowd and now getting +125 on it. Should grind out a profit after a few hundred plays of this). Is this how you advise to bet it Fish/others. Basically fading all day steam.

Finding 3 plays or so like this a day. Make sure before you bet that their isn't a BIG lineup change or something to make this line move legit.

Very good post Fish...... I am definately still new to this and found this very helpful. I also track on there how the percentage bet on a side changes as the line changes too. good post.

Fish, can you clarify how to use the information from line movement? Does it mean I should look to bet in the direction of the move? It seems to me that Iceman is doing the opposite.

I think Fish's point is basically just tracking them will give you a much better understanding of how they work, thus giving you one more leg up on everyone else.

Polaris, the veteran and experienced players bet LOTS of money on the openers! These players have played openers for years and have acquired a feel for where the line will go. MOST have accts @ CRIS, OLY, and Pinnacle just to play the openers. An example. I am a Florida Gator fan and RARELY play against UF. Last years UF-Georgia game opened UF-6 and I quickly played the max at ON Georgia +6 @Cris knowing the line would go down. One hour before kick off the line finally settled at UF-3. I bought 1/2 my Ga bet back by playing UF-3. Florida wins by a 14-10 score. I LOVE LOVE College Football! The openers ARE the Nutts! LT:103631605 :toast: :money8:

When Uncle Fish speaks, I listen! Another thing I do with the schedule is next to each teams name I list the next weeks opponent and other pertinent info. Such as LA=Look a Head, LD=Let Down, CS=Conference Sandwich, # of road games played in a row Ex 3RR,4RR. The MOST IMPORTANT info for me to note is if a team has blown a big lead and lost the game straight up. It is HARD for a team to come back from a heartbreaking come from ahead loss. Put this disheartened team on the road and you have the ingredient for a "pop the rubberband off the bankroll game" Stuff like this is why College Football is soooooooooo great! Great thread, Uncle Fish! LT:103631605 :toast: :money8:
