CNN PRODUCERS TOLD ON-AIR GUESTS: GET ANGRY
Mon Sep 12 2005 12:42:11 ET

After weeks of intense Katrina coverage from the main press, LA TIMES guru and former CNN host Michael Kinsley divulges that CNN was coaching guests to artificially enhance emotions!

Kinsley writes:

"The TV news networks, which only a few months ago were piously suppressing emotional fireworks by their pundits, are now piously encouraging their news anchors to break out of the emotional straitjackets and express outrage. A Los Angeles Times colleague of mine, appearing on CNN last week to talk about Katrina, was told by a producer to 'get angry.'"

Should it really be surprising or unusual that the networks tell their anchors how they want them to deliver the news. I would expect network directors to instruct their anchors on how to deliver the news.

How is this news?

Even a hard news reporter is going to be critiqued on their delivery and told how to improve.

Ohhh, I'm sure they were probably just told to be more forceful, show more emotion, ask tougher questions, get more in-depth, that sort of thing. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe told not to be so dry. There will children dying or starvation and dehydration as they spoke, what's so wrong with being a little angry? You right wingers are odd folk.

The fact is news has become entertainment with a political agenda. Am not aware of any unbiased news outlet. They all seem to be slanted one way or another.
