This is just an opinion but I believe the Justice Department will crack down on the internet gambling industry....This will transpire within the next 5 years...Lobbyists from Nevada are going to spend tens of millions of dollars getting these anti-internet laws passed. Remember ..Vegas casinos made 100 million LAST MONTH......They hate internet gambling and will do ANYTHING to thwart it.....At a cost of $200 -300 Million...or more...

Willgarb, are you familiar with the recent WTO ruling?

This is a complex issue, but I'm watching the game. I think the US is stil squirming trying to figure out how to BS their way through the WTO stance.

I don't think Vegas hates the offshores as much as you think. It certainly hasn't hurt Vegas tourism in general. Has it driven their sportsbook handle lower? Sure. But that was never really a prime revenue source anyway. It's an afterthought. They offer it more as a token anyway for the most part. Plus, it's a catch-22 because IDEALLY they would much prefer it all to be legalized so they could directly get in on it. And it's not a zero-sum game; meaning that I bet on tonight's game offshore, but did that take business away from Vegas? No. It's not like I was gonna fly to Vegas to bet on the game. I think mostly Vegas has kept silent in the debate to see how it shakes out and to feel around to see if they can get in on the action -- that's what they really want. Are you kidding me? MGMsportsbook.com? $$$$

The DOJ is about to try to ambush tribal gaming so we will see how well that goes. If they can get away with it, they might be emboldened to take a shot at offshore. Thing that is really scary is by all reports I hear the new Attorney General and his people are far more conservative when it comes to gambling and moral issues than John Ass-croft.

Ambush tribal gaming? Not sure what you're referring to here, but if you think that tribal gaming will some day be shut down you're on some bad mushrooms. It's far too important a revenue source and employer for the states involved and being from Connecticut I speak from first hand knowledge.

US is big loser in internet gambling

Do u realize how much the Feds make on Vegas profits as well as tribal profits nationwide. THese funds are well used in the fight against terrorism, etc, etc. When tens of thousands of players are playing poker, blackjack, etc not to mention offshore books that book the bets on horses(pari-mutuel tax is lost) vs players who may play at the track or OTB or a US based online venue where $ go into pool and taxed you are talking staggering amounts annually. They are studying this as we speak. They are losing billions.....The new laws will probably crack down on FEDEX.Western Union, furher crackdown on US charge card companies and I wouldnt be surprised if a law is passed making it a felony to use your charge card for any offshore gambling purposes..They will find some way..There is too much $ at stake...You are talking billions. The feds can shut any business down in the US and the threat of that will make companies like Western Union, Visa, MC, AX, Fedex..etc shiver in their boots and will be forced to step up their security.....

The day that online gaming is banned in the US is the day I hit the road.
Its to big to be ever be banned IMO that is why they can never pass the Kyl bill

...to many senators are playing poker.. I was playing Live poker a few weeks ago sitting on my right a Prosecuting attorney and at the same table two officers

How can they stop the millions playing online poker especially when a ton of these people are officials themselves playing! come on...

....They will find a way to regulate in the next 2-5 yrs IMO...

but if they ever pass the Kyl bill and make it into a law I would stop gambling, simple as that

Many, many more places to gamble legally than years past. The gov. needs the money thats why! Also, far more money needs in years ahead for education and especially HEALTHCARE FOR THE BABY BOOMERS. They don't want to raise taxes
so IMO the cats already out of the bag ---- they will regulate and get their piece of the action.

If Americans are eventually banned from participating in offshore betting, the entire industry will surely collapse. I don't believe there are enough canadians, Brits, etc. to keep things afloat. At that point there may only be 4-5 books left...and remember, in 2010, the only website left will be yahoo.com and quixtar.com Anyone here ever heard of Quixtar?

They can't stop it, they can only regulate it at best.

When tens of millions of people demand a product or service, it is impossible to 'stop it'.

The only question is whether they want to regulate it or not.

Online gambling isn't going anywhere except getting bigger! They are advertising on video games,tv,sportsbars,newspapers,etc.etc. There is a trend going here that I think leans heavily towards online gambling being completely legal in the near future.Bottom line is this train is too big and fast to stop so the officials and politicians will jump on and ride the train with us:103631605

What the USA needs to do here is wage another war. Right now there is only the war on terror and the war in Iraq. Looks like the war on drugs has fizzled out into a loss kinda like the vietnam war.

Seriously, the only way the US off-shore industry will collapse is if they move the industry on-shore, and then how will they compete with all the reduced juice and bonuses etc. with the tax, licencing and red tape that would have to go with it.

Even if they do find a way to stop people betting overseas from their computers or phone (policing it I mean) then the money will just go to domestic organized crime synicates. If people continue to snort billions of $ worth of coke in spite of the law then I think people will continue to get down on NFL, regardless of how much stuff the marines can blow up.

And as long as the christian right runs your country there is no way the evil sceptre of sports betting will poison the minds of the meak. That way when they inherit the earth they'll be conservative chumps rather than sharp gamblers.

Fish, why would you want to stay in a "free" counrty that prohibited any form of online gambling? I love this country and served in Desert Storm, but I too would look into living elsewhere if it came to that. Let us hope it does not.
