BIG AL'S AWESOME 84.3% NATIONAL LEAGUE WINNER
SF Giants
At 10:15pm our selection is on the San Francisco Giants over the San Diego Padres. The return of Barry Bonds took place last night and I am one of those who believe that even if he doesn't hit any homers in his first few games back, he will alter his opponents' game plan enough that it will make a difference. Just having Bonds in there is enough to force opposing pitchers and managers to try things other than they normally would and potentially throw of the rhythm of their team. Now if only Bonds is not a liability in the outfield, the Giants should be ok! I like this pitching matchup even without the Bonds factor. Giants lefty Noah Lowry is having a very nice sophomore season. He is 12 - 12 but more importantly, the Giants are 16 - 13 in games which he's started. That's really saying something when you consider their overall record is 12 games under .500. Lowry loves pitching at SBC Park where he has a 3.22 ERA in 106 innings, and the Padres are an underperforming hitting team against lefthanders (.255 BA vs. .261 against righties). Brian Lawrence gets the start for the Padres and who knows what happened to this guy as he used to be a decent pitcher. He has been downright awful lately. Finally, the Padres are unbelievably bad (5-27) as road dogs of +150 or less. Take the Giants. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
