Who thinks that Divisional Series in Baseball Playoffs should be 7 games not 5 games?

I am a firm believer that it is time for baseball to expand the first round playoff series from 5 to 7 games. There is several reasons I have for this. First, the team with the best record is being penalized in a 5 games series for having the best record. Why should MLB reward the wildcard team by having to win only 3 games instead of 4 games vs the best team or 2nd best team in their respective leagues. I believe these superior regular season teams deserve to have the inferior team to have to win 4 games instead of 3 games to advance. The Wilcard has been great for baseball but by not making the first round the standard 7 games it has imo increased these teams chances of winning unfairly. Second, in a 5 game series, if the superior team loses 1 of first 2 games at home, there is a possibility they never get to play at home again. Another unfair quirk as they may lose homefield advantage and have to earn it back but unlike a 7 game series, they don't get a chance to even get it back for a home game if underdog holds serve at home. Last, baseball needs to change it where best team should have the choice of facing wildcard or inferior division winner if they won't change. As is the case in NL, why should Cards have to possibly face Marlins or Phillies in 1st round best of 5 when you have a division winner who inferior to not only wildcard contenders but several that are out of realistic wildcard contention. Best team in league should face team with the worst record period. This is advantage for second best team who has not earned opportunity of playing worst team which will likely happen in NL when Braves likely face Padres if Astros don't win wildcard. They get opportunity to win quickly, rest, and set ptching for NLCS. It is time for baseball to correct these inequities as it likely will affect my Cardinals this year but it could be your team next year.

5 game series gives an advantage to the weaker teams...if you notice the wildcard teams have been very successful and that is part of it...

Houston - With Clemens,Oswalt, and Pettitte, you could easily be bounced in 3 going against that.

Jman and fish,

That is my point, a 5 game series negates a 162 game schedule imo. All the work that the best team in each league did in 162 comes down to 3 losses to a team that may have won 25 or more fewer games. Makes no sense and it isn't fair. These teams who were not the best teams in their respective divisions should be grateful for simply getting in and should not know that by winning 1 of first 2 games in a playoff series and they have increased their chances by 50 percent of advancing. Pure crap imo.

No doubt. Baseball is a marathon sport. Why play 162 games and then have 5 games decide your season? The extra long regular season was designed when only 2 teams made the playoffs. That got changed to 4, then to 8. I would not at all be against a shorter regular season with each series being 7 games (I wouldn't mind 9). Baseball regular season is waaaaay too long.

One yr '97 ,Baltimore went wire to wire and had Seattle who was a .500 team and on the road the first two (this was befoe they switched it) and were stuck with Johnson in game one...they always hit Randy welll though and knocked him out early...

In 1996 , the Indians were an incredible team , they got Baltimore (who really were jelling as a team at the end of the yr) in the 5 gamer and were out in 4, the Orioles were slightly above mediocre for most of that year, but got hot late.

Home field advantage should also go to the team with the best overall record not some stupid all star game winner.
