David Ortiz hit his 38th home run as a DH (41st overall) tonite in the top of the 8th against Toronto's Josh Towers to set the all time record for home runs in a season by designated hitters. The blast gave the Red Sox a 5-3 lead. Edgar Martinez and Rafeal Palmeiro held the old record at 37.

How can he not be the MVP? Good chance this is ANOTHER game winning home run.

Amazing, simply amazing.....

I had no idea that would be the record for HR's by a DH...

Big Papi reminds me so much of Pops Willie Stargell , the ball jumps off his awesome bat, tremndous bat speed ,like Stargell.

His home runs are like Bonds's--you know they are gone the second they leave the bat. Most unbelievable clutch hitter I have ever seen. Even my dad, the biggest Carl Yastrzemski fan there is, gives it up for Papi. A close game is never out of reach if he still has an at bat left.

and he's been doing it for 2 years!

with no Papi last year, the Red Sox DO NOT even come close to winning the World Series.....

No question.

What amazes me is that the guy was on the scrap heap in Minnesota.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

Arod's had a better year hitting, runs the bases better and plays a hell of a 3rd base.

Not even close.

Big PAPI is 3x the team leader AROD is.........not to mention clutch player.

Arod may still get my vote for the MVP, but at the CURRENT time, ORTIZ gets my vote.
