Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been around for a few weeks. I've had a tragedy in my life and I am now just coming around to trying to resume my normal life.
Here's what happened: The Sunday of Labor Day Weekend I was playing in a golf tournament with my younger Brother ( my only sibling). A storm came up and we were alerted by the sirens to get off the course. We did and the group split between the clubhouse and a big permanent pavillion about 10 feet from the Clubhouse. My Brother and I were in the Pavillion along with 50 or so others. As the storm came through everything was fine, the rain let up and looked like it was about to end when my Brother steped out of the pavillion to get his cigarettes from his cart - just under the overhang of the Clubhouse. On his way back to the pavillion he was one step from being under the pavillion when he was struck by lightening directly in the back of the head. I was not 10 feet from him when this happened and was the first one to him. He was dead before he hit the ground. I will never forget the sound and as I kneeled over him the look in his eyes. There was actually an Emergency Room nurse at the event and a doctor. We all tried CPR etc and the Parmedics were there within 10 minutes, but as I said it turns out he was dead before he hit the ground.
I tell this not for sympathy but to let EVERYONE know how short life is. Go hug your Parents, your Wife, your Kids and your Siblings no matter what else is going on. Do something you have been putting off. Be a better friend. Put your affairs in order. Make a mark in your community. Have a party.
