Earl Wilson used to bat eighth for the Detroit Tigers when he pitched because shortstop Ray Oiler - a career .191 avearge - batted ninth. Wilson finished his career with nine home runs, six more than Oiler.

Guy is still hanging on:
the angels signed 31-year-old lhp dontrelle willis to a minor league contract and assigned him to triple-a salt lake. The two-time all-star and 2003 nl rookie of the year hasn't appeared in a major league game since sept. 25, 2011 with cincinnati. He was pitching this season for the long island ducks of the independent atlantic league and started in their all-star game.

Well, if guys like him weren't hanging, what would you have to do with your spare time? You can't bump useless threads otherwise, right?
