I know I'm missing a few who could crack the top 5...

guys like Felipe Alou and Tom Kelly got the most from their teams, even prick Cito Ggaston would have to get some votes.

i dont put that much into bobby cox's 14 straight titles . that division hasnt been that strong during those 14 years .

his owner would spend more than just about any other .

if he had won 3 or 4 world series in that stretch than i would say he is one of the all time greats . since he only won 1, i dont think he did that great of a job.

TERRY FRANCONA???? LOLOL

How about a little more of a track record before we declare him to this list...or we have to include his previous managerial stint!

Not sure if GOD himself could have led the Red Sox to the World Championship.

Thus, Terry the Rat deserves to be mentioned in everybodys top five.

I consider Bobby Cox one of the worst managers in MLB. For all of the talent they have and they have won one world series. That line up he had in their hey day with great starting pitching and that lineup, someone could have made zero changes with that lineup and won 90 games putting Maddux, Smoltz and the rest of that staff out there. Cox stood in the way of them winning 3 or 4 world series with poor managing. He makes coaching decisions like Denny Green manages the clock at the end of a game, deer in the headlights look!

As nice a guy as Torres seems he has the largest payroll year in and year out, how could they not win games? The Phil Jackson of MLB. Let's see him win with Milwuakee or Kansas City and then I would consider him a great manager. One thing for Joe is he hasn't got in the way of the Yankees winning world series.

A good manager in my mind takes a team and someone gets them to win more games than they should. Billy Martin comes to mind as that type of manager that mixed things up and got his teams to win more games by hit and run, suicide squeeze, double steals, things like that than they should have won. Kelly up in my neck of the woods did a good job of winning in a small market and getting the most out his talent and budget. He did a good job of watching pitch counts and playing everybody and letting them know their roles. Also won two world series. Fun fact first team to draw 3 million fans, not the Yankees, not the Braves, not the Dodgers, if you guessed Minnesota Twins you got it right!!

In the NFL it would be Walsh would be one of my picks even though I grew up in the Bud Grant era. How about Tice for an idiot coach!

You guys are clueless about Cox and the atlanta orgainzation.. payroll this year of about 75 mil, compared to yanks and redsox 200 mil...

bobby and the braves won with nothing in 1991... rafiel belliard, jeff blauser, greg olsen, anybody remember these guys...

yeah they should have won a few more world series but they are in it every year and this year is no exception..

Look at this team, at one time 12 rookies were on the 25 man roster... and a couple other 2nd year guys...

and the biggest thing to remember, this run is not over... the braves could win it this year (dreaming on my part) but thats beside the point...

believe also every team in the nl east is over .500 and id say that makes this, the strongest division in baseball this year...

also dont forget many of these titles were won in the nl west, battling those dodgers and giants every year..

Taking into account post-season performance:

1. Dick Williams
2. Joe Torre
3. Billy Martin
4. Tom Kelly
5. Jack McKeon

McKeon took over a team that was sub-.500 and, with the same players, took them to a title; he makes the top five based on that.

This is a very dumb and uninformed post from a normally very solid poster. That weak division that you are talking about has represented the National league in the World series 8 out of 14 years. Im speaking of all the divisions that the Braves have played in in the last 14 years. The Braves have not been in the NL East the entire time during the last 14 years. His owner would spend more than just about any other. Ted Turner has not owned the braves in almost 10 years and AOL is about the tightest group of idiots in the entire league. The Braves payroll is capped at less than 80 mil which is a drop in the bucket compared to many teams. That 80 mil incluedes alot of dead money on people like Mike Hampton. The Brave have started 19 rookies this season before roster expansion which is more than Tampa Bay and Kansas City. Bobby Cox is amazing!!!!! The greatest of the great.

this is absolutely bobby's and the entire organization's best job.. most had them written off before the season started, but they are "back".

what part of this team scares anyone.

1b. Laroche/franco.. 2nd year man (basically) adam laroche and 48 year old julio franco. boy thats frightening.

2b. marcus giles.. scrappy player (great guy) but often injured..

ss. Furcal.. slow start, solid year..

3b. C. Jones. 2 stints on the DL for chipper, no shot at 100 rbi's and about 20HR. only A. Jones will be a 100 rbi man.

Lf. Langerhans... bet hardly anyone on here knows who this is..

rf. Francoeur.. rookie.. bright spot to team.

cf. A Jones... his season is a big reason (the biggest), as to why the braves win it again... League MVP....

c. Johnny Estrada.. anyone know much about him??

and our pitchers:

J Smoltz: return from closers role to starting staff, had many ???? before year started, thank goodness he had a big year.

T. Hudson... the one and only signee during the offseason, may win 14 games, and had a long stint on dl...

J. Sosa... the brightest spot on team in my opinion, and if anyone else starts 3rd in the rotation, its a shame..

Every other pitcher on the team can be lumped into a pile..

closer: we have the awesome Kyle Farnsworth, after the great Kolb couldnt get it done or reitsma for that matter..

yes Bobby is playing with a loaded team this year, thats for sure boys...
(Give me a break)..

Ill bet anyone that he wins Manager of the Year (hands down) once again.. probably be unanimous...

J Sosa is at least the 3rd best pitcher on this team. I think with Hampton out for the season this should cement is spot at #4 if not 3. I hope its Smoltz,Hudson and Sosa for the postseason.
