I think Fish and I began betting point spreads before we knew they existed. In the early 70's, while in junior high, I began a pool during the college bowl season, inwhich you picked the team you thought would win and by the amount of points. We were setting our own point spreads on the games. It was a great contest. I ran it for over 20 years. It began with Fish, I and another friend. At one time, it grew to over 50 people. My dad had a grocery store in a very small town, and I would post standings everyday. People always came in to see how they stood. Fish will agree, it was a contest ahead of it's time.

To this day, winning the HAWKEYE171 Bowl Pool is one of my my most treasured gambling accomplishments!!

I remember I was in college and at the Student Union when a guy showed me a parlay card. I asked him what it was all about. He told me to take the teams I like and if I won I would collect the amount that the teams paid. That did it. Gave him my first dollar bet and filled out the card.

haha I was like 12 and my dad had this parlay card and said "son, pick 4 teams" I didn't even know what -12, -4.5 meant, I just picked 4 teams and he put 100 bucks and he won. From that day, I was destined to be a degenerate gambler :suomi:

Good answer Sherman. I have been gambling for about as long as I can remember.

My dad used to bring me home "spot sheets" from the factory he worked at. Cost $1 to enter and if you picked 4 NFL winners ATS (basically a 4 team parlay), you won like $20. I was like 7 years and couldn't wait for my dad to bring home that spot sheet every thursday.

Around the age of ten, I used to try and talk my friends into gambling on everything. Checkers, Tecmo Bowl, Electric Football, horse, foot races, whatever. Would bet for baseball cards, cash, toys, food stamps, anything of value.

When I was in high school I used to run a weekly football pool. A few bucks to enter and whomever picked the most winners ATS won the pot. One time I got caught running off copies of my contest cards for that week using the school's copier. I had a big blue folder that I kept all of the pools in with "FOOTBALL POLL" written on the front of it and an envelope that said "POLL MONEY" where I stashed the cash - they confisacted everything. Only thing my dad said to me when the school contacted him about it was to use a little more discretion. :103631605

I bet my grandfather $1 on Super Bowl XI, Oakland - Minnesota.
I was 9 or 10 years old. He was from the "old school" and liked the old NFL teams, so I took the Raiders.

Sharp from the jump, I tell ya'...........

7th grade in Catholic School...We would all be in the bathroom throwing quarters against the wall...The rush from picking up all the quarters from the disgusting bathroom floor.

It was around 2 weeks later we all got in trouble (It had to be the fact our pants were almost falling down with all the extra weight from quarters in our pockets)

From there, it went to Spades for $ in high school to sports gambling in College.

My first few years of gambling were tough and there were some big lows but for the last 16 years the money, the adrenalin and the laughs I've had on the way are priceless - no way I'd go back.
