Thank you Fat Tony. Nice Browser (Firefox 1.0.7), works well with many sportsbooks.

I suggest always doing a "Clean Install" when downloading an update. Cuts out a ton of problems.

Download the newest version anywhere on your computer.(I always download it to my desktop.) Click on "computer" and go to "add/remove programs", find firefox and remove the version you're using now.

Then go back and download the newest version. (All your settings and favorites will still be there when you make the switch to the newer version. You won't lose those files when you remove the first version.)

does firefox have a USER NAME + PASSWORD manager that allows you to log into your accounts with 1 click?

I currently use myie.com & they use ROBOFORM....

ROBOFORM is great, but they only let you save 10 Passwords on the FREE VERSION.... otherwise it costs more.

Internet Explorer, security wise, is a nightmare. Flawed left and right. Its not that Firefox is tight as a drum, but hackers choose to go after the browser that's most widely used.

Have two friends who work with computers and are extremely computer literate and neither one will use IE. They use Firefox with the Java Script disabled.

There are some sites that will only work with I.E based browsers, unfortunately....but just once in a while (some books can't handle the firefox no java thing). Fukoff IE and get used to Firefox.

Hey guys, read up on Firefox. It is open-source software, meaning essentially its free with all kinds of add ons and plug ins developed by the firefox community of users. Some add ons are very helpful........since Java is needed to view things on your trusted sites, try the add on called "no script"
It takes a little bit to get used to, but it gives you full control over which sites you can allow to have the java going, you can say temporarily give permission, always, or never. I use it all the time.
Another neat one is the accuweather plugin which gives you mouse over popups of your local radar and forecast....use it all the time......also is another called "customize google" if you use google alot this is handy.

Tony is right, there are no perfect security setups but using firefox with contol over javascript, and have "layered protection" many of the programs are free too, can reduce your insecurity significantly....

Check out this site which gives links to the free programs by category that help complete this "layered" security (i use 3 programs that run at startup and monitor the whole time I'm online)

Spybot sd resident (tea timer)---resident protection from spyware and other shit
TrojanHunter Guard--guards against those nasties that many anti virus programs don't catch
WinPatrol---monitors every change that happens to your computer and won't allow it unless you give it the ok.

Good firewall, I use Outpost which itself will allow me to control everything a website can do and to "customize" which sites I'll allow say .gif animation and so on. :toast: (I allow the rx the animations)

Good antivirus, Avast...great protection and updates regularly automatically

Guess what ......every one of these is FREE. and I never get spyware, unwanted cookies and bullshit anymore.

Here is the link to the best freeware out there: 46 best freeware utilities

Good luck!

Don't you love the AOL commercials where they brag about all the great things they give you with their product?? Spyware, ad blocker, etc..

There's better programs on the internet for free!!!!!!!!! LOL

yes, firefox does have a password manager. The first time you enter a username password for a site it will ask you if you want to save that un/pwd.
I'd also recommend the plug-in BugMeNot, it lets you give community usernames and passwords to sites where you have to register for content - ie alot of newspaper sites. It saves you the hassle of giving them all you personal info and all the spam you'll get from the site.

I'm going to install the latest version - I assume this setting tweak will still work. It sure improves speeds (for those not on dialup)

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
