St. Petersburg, Florida – Devil Rays skipper Lou Piniella is reportedly stepping down as manager of the team at the end of the season, but Rays PR chief Rick Vaughn says he knows nothing of any confirmed deal to buy Piniella out.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Piniella has agreed to a $2.2 million buyout -- half of his salary in what would be the final year of his contract. His agent, Alan Nero has not confirmed the buyout.

Right now Piniella is huddling behind closed doors with the Rays’ PR staff, but there is no confirmation that a deal is done.

Smart move for his life expectancy..gotta be good for another 18 months tacked onto his minimum.

Sh!t organization, sh!t facility, yet a partially promising roster.

I never understood why Lou took this job anyway...The D-Rays will always be a minor league team playing in the worst baseball park ever made...what a joke that team is...

Lou just may resurface, even though this was suppose to be his semi-retirement job.

couldn't agree more D-Rays are the worst sports team of all time, just ahead of the Seattle Pilots.

You're not kidding. You can actually see the grey hairs and wrinkles multiply over the course of a game. Not to mention that yellowstone park blood pressure he's got. Best decision he ever made.
