I was all set to take a job at the local Casino as a ticket writer, shitty money, shitty hours but "sort of" a fun job.

Get a call the day before I was to start from a place I applied at for a management position about a year ago, would I be interested in coming in for an interview ?

ummmm ... sure ...

Over TWICE the money ( Salary ) Mon thru Fri 8-5, holidays, weekends, sick days, benefits, small staff to organize, yadda yadda yadda ...

Needless to say when the offered me the job I jumped on it ( started Thursday )

BELIEVE ME it is much more fun playing at a Casino than working for one.

Probably better for you bank roll too! Congrats on the new job!!!:103631605

Thanks !

"Real Jobs" are tough to find in LV ... Casino jobs are what you do until something else comes along.

Wifey and I are almost up to 75% of what we made in SD, my whole "attitude" about living here has changed overnight.

Not likely.

But nice find. With the cost of living there, ANY steady job will beat the standard of living for most "civilized" places. It was even better a few years ago, but still good place to live.

Changing jobs can be a seriously stressful situation-especially if it involves moving to a new city. The frustration can be overwhelming, and you never know if you are 1 day or 1 year from getting the job you want.

I moved to Denver about 7 years ago with no inside contacts whatsoever. I took a temp position through a placement agency, which turned permanent within 6 months, and I'm still there and planning to be for a long, long time.

Hope the new gig works out well for you K1, if not-there are always many other good jobs out there if you can find them.

Working as a Security Officer was a most humbling job, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Sitting on my ass most of the day is going to be pure heaven !

Good move Kiss. Getting a good job isn't the easiest thing to do here, but don't believe the hype about CA pay. I have discussed a number of jobs in San Diego over the last two years. Guess what, the pay they said they could give me is LESS than I get now. Granted I have highly valuable industry specific knowledge so that is worth something, but for finance type jobs the scale of pay between here and there is squat. I hear the same applies to a number of professions too. The main difference between here and there is the fact that there just are more high-paying jobs out that way, but on like for like basis you get very little extra for doing a job in CA.

You followed the path tens of thousands have. They came out here, took what they could to pay some bills and eventually found themselves. Lots of employers, myself included, are biased against newcomers. Newcomers book out of town during the first summer and those 105 degree or more days pile up, or they find they have blown through 10 or 20 dimes in the casinos and decide its best they keep their distance from them. If someone sticks it out 18 months, I figure they are a decent bet to stick around and I stop worrying about hiring them. You probably caught the same break. Congrats and don't be surprised if soon enough you are at 90% or better parity to SD.

Baker ..

Serra Mesa Area ... the hills on the north side of Qualcomm

WB

I worked in the same industry for almost 20 years in SD so naturally I was making more money, the starting pay in SD isn't all that great. People stay for the weather not the money.
