Cowher is great for working his team into a lather to go out and beat a favored team in October. He's a motivator and gets his team at a higher emotional level. But come playoff time when both teams are sky high emotionally, his lack of in game smarts are revealed.

You can't say this game was a big game, and say that the back-to-back games against the Eagles and New England last year weren't big games.
Also, if the AFC Championship is a big game, then this game means very little so winning BIG GAMES shouldn't even be a topic of discussion here, no?
Poker King Jim said:Wrong. The Steelers were dogs in both of those games and Cowher's teams came out with the emotional advantage each time. Each game was much more of a "big game" to the Steelers. Exactly where Cowher thrives. Yesterday they were favorites and the Pats were the ones being doubted. Exactly where Cowher falters. The Steelers and the crowd came out a little flat only to be sparked by the big play to Ward. Also in those 2 games they were both blowouts where crucial coaching decisions were not a factor. He is a decent gameplanner but his shortcomings lie in making on the fly in game decisions and adjusting to what the other team is doing. I have been a Steelers fan since birth. The guy is a good coach but he is not a big game coach. Get Bill Cowher in a close game late and his nuts will shrivel up. Not much has changed.
