Jimmy Rollins now has a 31 game hitting streak...one of the most rare occurrences in MLB history..longest since 1999 when Vladimir Guerrero hit in 31 consecutive for the then Montreal Expos. His streak is only the 39th of at least 30 games in major-league history and 19th in NL history. It is tied for longest in Phillies history, with Ed Delahanty's in 1899.

The reason is because there are not enough games left in the season to break the 56 game record. If he would have had this streak going in July it would be the top story of the day everyday until it would get snapped. Even though his chances of breaking the record would be next to 0. People love to hope against hope on things like breaking one of the greatest records in sports history.

I could care less if he breaks the record...i know that isn't going to happen. The fact that only 39 people in the history of baseball have had a streak this long is something to be proud of and warrants coverage.
