I am speaking only of the division title.

Garcia on the mound and the sox dont want to face the Indians at home to lose the division.

Is the majic number 1 for sox?

Indians must put the last three games behind them and find their groove again.

Just look at the standings ! Since the last 3 games are at Cleveland, unless White Sox win and Indians lose tomorrow, the Indians are still alive but would have to sweep the last 3 home games with the White Sox and then there would be a one game playoff also at Cleveland.

Grilli is former white sox player/starter in Florida before that.....got 8 starts with Sox last year and pitched horrible/started about 5 year before for Marlins...gets a chance to get back at them with start tomorrow (today). So no this isn't his 2nd start ever, just of this season.

IF the Soz win Thursday AND the Indians lose the Central goes to the Sox - and in the long run for Cleveland - that might not be the worst thing in the world - especially if NYY or Boston loses Thursday, too

for the sox will spend the next 3 days not caring about anything but rest and staying healthy

if the indians lose thursday they will have 67 loses. now boston has 66 and the evil empire has 65. for cleveland - if they lose AND NYY loses - the indians gotta be loving life for that would give NYY 66 losses and Boston at least 66, the 2 play each other this weekend and if one team wins 2 out of 3 that will give one team 68 losses meaning sweep by the indians gives them 67 losses and the WC

look for some sort of playoff game to be played monday - be it a WC game or Bos/NYY for the East - or maybe both

I agree with Winky the faster Chisox clinch better it is for Cleveland...but that would mean the Indians lost another game....if they blow it they can thank the sorry ass DRays for showing up.

Not sure what some of you are talking about. The only way the White Sox and Cleveland play it off is if they are also tied for the wild card. If they collectively have the division and wild card sewn up there is no playoff for division title. Sox win.

Royal is correct..if the sox win today it is over even if clev. were to sweep them, they would win the division because they won the season series....G

As I posted in another thread the last thing the yankees and Boston wanted was the whitesox winning today.

However if both were tied and there was no wild card available, they would play it off...in this case that wouldnt be possible because someone would have to be below them with NY and BOS playing one another.

If there would've been a tie, both are named AL CENTRAL CHAMPS no matter who won the season series. Season series would've dictated who got wild card and division for playoffs but not who is AL CENTRAL CHAMPS, that would've gone to both. Cards and Houston tied a few years ago and both were named nl central champs, cards got wild card since they lost season series

For gamblign purposes on future bets how does it work? My guess Chicago would only be paid. But you are correct on what you said, just curious how future wagers would be paid.

why do white sox have division won

they are up three if cleveland sweeps last three from sox wouldn't they be tied and have a one game playoff for division?

the reason is because for Cleveland to tie Chicago they would have to win all 3 which means they would qualify for the Wildcard...impossible for NY and Bos to both tie if Cleveland wins all three remaining games.... Chicagoe better head to head record.that is why.

if there was one spot available they would have to play it off with a game playoff
