Still quite a ways off but interesting question. If you are a Cubs fan that would be the biggest nightmare of a WS. Do you root for your Chicago brotheren or your arch rival in Cardinals? If I was a Cubs fan, which I obviously are not, I would rather not watch the series, or root for the Cardinals so that next year could beat the crap out of them and take them off. Any thoughts?

What's going to be the line for STL/SD series anyway? Any idea?

d2bets,

I don't know what it will be but my guess is Cards 10-1. What are your thoughts?

If I was a Cards fan, which I obviously are not, I would be concerned with how Carpenter finished the year. Can he just flip the switch? 22 runs and 36 hits in his last 21.1 innings. 3 straight losses after winning 17 straight.

Real interested to see the Game 1 line for Carpenter vs. Peavy.

D2Bets,

I was not happy with how Carp finished year but an article keeps coming back to my mind from Sports Weekly a couple months ago and it was about Carp and Morris. Carp was agonizing over having to sit in playoffs and not getting to pitch against Red Sox in WS since he is from that area of the country. I have a hunch that Morris and Carp will lead the way in playoffs this year. Cards have not finished well but feel they are ready and waiting. Their finish is only going to create value for Cards imo. BOL

D2,

Not kidding. With Pads have to win out to avoid having worst record ever of a playoff team, I expect a big line for the Series. How can it be any different in this case. When Cards play Astros or Braves, I expect 2-1 or less but big price on this series.

If the playoffs had been in July, Carpenter could not have lost. At this point, all you can do is hope and guess. And yet, he will still be priced for his and the Cards season numbers for the most part. I have a feeling Peavy might be better than +200 for Game 1 and if so I am going to HAMMER that.

As a Cub fan , I would never root for the Whitesox in a WS, nor would any Cub fans that I know.

So you would root for the Cardinals?

The hypothetical is that you must choose to either root for the White Sox or the Cardinals. Given that choice, I believe a Cubs fan must root for the Sox.

10-1 isn't big, it's ridiculous. No playoff series would ever be that high. I think it should be -250 but will be closer to -400, maybe a little less.

D2,

The reason I think a Cubs fan would want to root for Cards besides being able to play them and hammer them next year is that I would want to be the first Chicago team to win WS. If White Sox won, would that take fans away and lose luster for Cubs if they ever won it. JMHO. In regards to Carp/Peavy, I would put it at Carp -175. BOL

D2,

I am telling you that it is going to be over 5-1 for sure and closer to 10-1. Maybe we can find out if someone knows of series odds yet. Probably not until Astros clinch imo.

I understood the original question and as I said I would NEVER root for the Whitesox in a WS nor would any Cub fan that I know.

Give me 7-1 right now. Hey, that's closer to to 5-1 than 10-1 so it should please you. I'd be willing to put up 5 dimes to your 35. We could do it as a matchbook X-Bet and the 2% fee is still much less than normal sportbsook juice. You in?
