VERY STRANGE MOVE BY THE tWINS. hE HIT .280 WITH 20 HOME RUNS in his last season there and they released him after the season. :messed:

Red Sox gave up nothing for Ortiz they simply signed him as a free agent :heh:

walking Big Papi to get to MANNY RAMIREZ!

As stated last night, anyone who votes for A-Rod for MVP I will hunt down and beat with a bat. They dont walk A Rod to get to Sheffield. EVER!

seems like a bad argument to me. award is for the most valuble player in the AL, period. pitchers and DH's are 100% eligible.

the dont vote for a DH argument seems unfairly biased in many ways, mostly that it is completely wrong to 100% eliminate a position and give it no consideration. A more fair question would be where would a team be without that player? That is only one criteria but much better to start there then to say I would not vote for certain players NO MATTER WHAT. Not a sensical approach.

Obviously all things being equal, you would give the award to the guy that plays a gold glove type of third base vs a slow guy too unathletic to play defense at all. Obvious choice that AROD is the more valuable player but Big Papi likely wins only because he is the more popular player.

A Rod gold glove? typical give a guy an award based on past performance. A Rod has made A LOT of errors this year

WOuld agree Rfan, except many have defined the position who meant the most to their team arod meant a lot, but down the stretch for RSOX no has meant more to his team....sure helps having manny

comic relief post?

Yes your posts are rather comical. FYI, out of 3rd baseman that have played 100 games. AROD is 3rd in fielding percentage. And he has WAAY better range than Lowell and Blalock, therefore I would say that would qualify as gold glove caliber play. The average person doesn't realize the importance of this and this clearly separates the two in terms of value.

That is indeed how some define but it but it is not correct. The more valuable player has been AROD due to his fine defense in addition to his fine bat. I don't care for him but these are the facts of the matter.

Offensive stats are too close to choose a clear cut winner.
How many runs has Ortiz saved with his glove this year?

Royalfan,

Unfortunately you are making another completely incorrect argument. You do not even see why. MLB 3rd baseman are there for their bats, period. Like 1st base it is an offensive position. Defense from the position is nice, but not neccesary. So to compare A Rod to bunch of defensive schlepps and say he is better than them and thus deserves the MVP is wrong. To then argue that though he is third in defense among 3rd baseman but is actually better than the other two clearly shows your bias.

Twins fan here ~ Ortiz had streaks of carrying the Twins but he also was injured quite a bit. Small market budget keeps teams like the twins from signing him. He has really improved out in Boston. Different hitting coach, more base runners to get rbi's in Boston, better hitting park and especially Manny hitting behind him all are factors.

Can't believe Joe walked him to get to Manny with one out in a one run game. Must have read Bobby Cox's book of managing.

pitch around Big Papi again. this does not happen to A Rod.

some people continue to argue and continue to lose face. everyone is entitled to their opinion though. certainly the majority can see.

So you think that Lowell and Blalock have as much range at the hot corner as AROD? If you do that is about as idiotic as Viking saying that Eckstein has a good arm at shortstop. If you don't then you would also be agreeing that AROD is the better third basemen than them as the fielding percentage is barely behind them.
