All the Indians and Phillies have do is win, and then root, root, root for the road team.

Sunday's scenarios are simple in the AL:

  • The Red Sox win, they clinch the AL Wild Card no matter what the Indians do.
  • The Red Sox lose and the Indians lose, the Red Sox still win the AL Wild Card by a game.
  • The Red Sox lose and the Indians win, we have a one-game playoff between the two teams at Fenway Park in Boston, the site already determined by a coin flip.
As for the NL, just as simple:

  • The Astros win, they clinch the NL Wild Card no matter what the Phillies do.
  • The Astros lose and the Phillies lose, the Astros still win the NL Wild Card by a game.
  • The Astros lose and the Phillies win, we have a one-game playoff between the two teams at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the site already determined by a coin flip.
Sunday's schedule of games that affect the playoff picture:

  • White Sox at Indians, 1:05 p.m. ET
  • Phillies at Nationals, 1:05 p.m. ET
  • Yankees at Red Sox, 2:05 p.m. ET
  • Cubs at Astros, 2:05 p.m. ET

I'm hoping to see at least one extra game between the 2 scenarios.
