* for starters Roger Clemens, his unbelievable season at age 43;

hit/walk ratio 1.01
era 1.87
could have easily won 20 games and another Cy Young Award

last year Roger Clemens won Cy Young # 7, he's had a better statistical year in 2005 in ever category except record.

Houston is going to be one tough out with the big three of Clemens,Pettitte and Oswalt

Craig Biggio

Hitting 26 homers at age 40, the MOST in his career...

Biggio has one of the more unique looking HOF resume's, a catcher/2nd baseman /outfielder, who has 407 career stolen bases...

Biggio age 40 still with a decent shot at 3,000 hits (2,800) and he started as a catcher, no chance he's still playing this well if he stayed behind the mask.

How about Gold Glover Manny leading the majors in outfielder assists with 16.

The breakthrough season by Derek Lee...46, 107, .337 just 107 RBI with 46 bombs:icon_conf , Lee no longer flying under MBL Superstar Radar.

I am wondering when was the last time 47 homers only added up to 107 RBI

Carlos Beltran, how many millions did the NYM waste on him:icon_conf

Beltran looked like the second coming of the great Roberto Clemente in the ' 04 postseason hitting 8 post season homers , cashed in and hit a whopping 16 homers, 78 RBI and .266 avg for the entire 2005 campaign...

His biggest hit of the season for Beltran was off of Mike Cameron's head

The 'teen-age' Homerun Club :howdy:

Adrian Beltre 19 HR
Raffy Palmiero 18 HR
Garret Anderson 17HR
Brian Giles 15 HR (tied his much lighter hitting brother Marcus for "tops in family"...Giles no longer a 35-40 threat

Hammy Sosa 14 HR:lolBIG: , who will sign him in '06?

:toast:
Bagwell, Thome, Bonds , Frank Thomas, Juan Gone all no shows in 05

Show some love to the unexpected surprises in NY!

Aaron Small, a 33-year old career minor leaguer, gets called up in July and goes 10-0 for the Yanks -- the $200 million, RJ/Mussina/Wright/Pavano Yanks -- saving their season.

Ditto for Shawn Chacon, plucked from the depths of Colorado where he went an atrocious 2-17 or something over two years, turned in a Cy-Young calibre series of starts in less than half a season in the Bronx.

Rounding out the unexpected slew of no-name, no cost rookies, without the stellar efforts of Chien-Mien Wang and Robinson Cano, Yanks are a .500 team at best. Who'd have thunk it before the season...that the stars would be A-Rod, Jeter, Mariano, Small, Chacon, Wang and Cano?

Jason Giambi's midseason resurgence after a horrid start was remarkable. I assume Torre pulled Giambi into his office when the Yanks were 11-19 and trailing the D-Rays and said..."look, Jason, just shove this up your a$$, I won't tell..no one has to know..."

David Wright, after a promising start last year, proves he's legit with 27 HR, 300 avg, and 100+ RBI, and establishes himself as the Next Big Thing.

After losing out on the Delgado sweepstakes (with whose bat, the Mets probably win the wild card), and fretting about pathetic options like Doug Mientcewicz, the Mets call up Mike Jacobs, who promptly hits 10 jacks and bats 300 in a month's time. Is he a fluke, or the next coming of David Wright? If he's for real, Beltran hits above .220, and the Mets pick up some middle relief, they won't even need another bat to seriously contend for the division.

Jae Seo, a perennial pathetic pitcher, is hurt half the year but comes back to go 8-2 with an ERA of 2. If he's a solid option, the Mets sextet of Pedro-Glavine-Benson-Zambrano-Trachsel-Seo will put the fear of Gawd in teams next year.

Aaron Heilman, another enigmatic pitcher who's shown signs of brilliance in the past but has been woefully inconsistent in his career, shifts to the bullpen after the predictable collapse of Braden Looper. He's brilliant there, and may have found his niche.

Promising signs in NY.

Jimmy Rollins.......35 game hit streak...9th longest ever!

Ryan Howard.......22 HRs in only 309 ABs...one every 14 plate appearances for NL Rookie of Year???

White Sox.......2nd best record in all of baseball behind the Cardinals

Placido Polanco.... .331 batting avg leads AL but he will not win title because of some stupid bullshit that he played in the NL for part of the season.

Albert Pujols Pujols is the only major leaguer to hit over 30 homers in each of his first five seasons. He has hit at least 40 home runs in each of the past three seasons. This year, he surprisingly added 16 steals. Also over 100 runs and 100 rbis in each of his 5 seasons as well!!

David Ortiz and Manny Ram combined for 288 RBIs

Andruw Jones MVP??? If so, his batting avg will be the lowest ever for an MVP at .262. With runners in scoring position his avg is under .220!!!

Jimmy Rollins extends hit streak to finish at 36 games....

Officially his streak will end with the 2005 season....if he were to hit in the first 21 games of '06 he would not break Joe Dimaggio's record.

Unless Bozo Selig decides that baseball needs some more attention and changes the rule. For me, the story of '05 is that even after the steroid influence is diminished A-Rod continues to put up epic numbers.

Thank Baker for the clowns he kept batting at the top of the order in front of Lee.
