I don't know how well $50-75 a ticket would go over down there. A Major League Soccer team? Now that's a possibility!

Maybe they can get one of the established teams to move there. How does the Mexico City Bills sound?

I was wondering about the price of the tickets those 100k paid? Are they there as fans or just gawkers out to see the latest american circus come to town? do they understand football?

TTinco, Mexico has a soccer league already, with more fans than any american MLS league might hope to steal if it sent a team over there.

Red, I know, but I think it would be appealing to them to have a Mexico team playing "their" sport and beating US teams. Every game could be a matter of national pride.

I can't imagine that they charged very much for tickets to tonights game. The last thing in the world the NFL wanted to see was a 1/2 full stadium......they got 105,000 to show...I'm wondering if they didn't just give them away for free.

My point was, if MLS played there, it would be against another MLS team and not a mexican team so if mexicans were to go to the game they would be rooting for either one of the American teams...I dont really think they would be up with for that with the way they love their soccer. On the other hand if MLS teams could try to play for the cup of the americas (or whatever its called, the one where the top teams from the americas meet and play for best team in the americas) that would bring out all the soccer nuts...

Ps...Wasnt it mexico that sang some song about Osama bin laden when the US played them some years ago?

I think it was Mexico-and could swear it was within the last year.

Maybe the fans will get so disgusted with the Cards that they'll start throwing crap from the stands at them (like they do in Phoenix).

Actually, Mexican fans are quite knowledgeable about NFL football. Less so about U.S. college foots. They've been watching the NFL for a few decades. DirecTV - all the premium channels and Sunday Ticket - is very cheap in Mexico. You just contact a local hacker, get an antenna - and pay the hacker about a c-note a year. Most of the hackers will offer a guarantee - if the signal gets zapped they'll fix it for you.

I personally like the name the Mexico City Apostadores. NFL won't know what that means, and being self-liars won't want to know.

Why is game in Mexico anyway ? Union might balk at the extra travel.

The tickets were mostly $40 to $60, with the cheapest at about $25 and the most expensive around $85. No freebies either, I was watching the Mexican news and they said there were thousands upon thousands of fans lined up outside the stadium to buy tickets today in typical Mexican fashion. Unless its a game everyone expects to sell out Mexicans don't buy anything until game day. While the majority of the population can't afford that, Mexico City has about 20 million people and a good deal of them are quite well off.

There won't be a team because the business model for a sports franchise is different there than here. Mexican sports teams make their money from sponsorships, with most soccer games played in half empty stadiums. A comparative example would be if teams played in the Pepsi NFL and the games were part of the McDonalds regular season and the Budweiser playoffs. They literally do that in the Mexican soccer league. Add to that the jerseys looking like a NASCAR jacket, with 3 to 6 major sponsors gleeful when devoted fans pay for souvenir jerseys that serve as billboards for their products.
