San Diego/St Louis - Overall winner, Cardinals. Grudgingly I will take them to win this series but the way it stands now I probably will not make a wager on them. In fact game 1 and game 2 I already know I will take the Padres and the + money, I feel confident I will at least win one or the other to grind out a little something on these first two games. No way there is any value laying 200 or so on the Cardinals in either one of these games IMO.

Game 1 we get the Padres ace in Peavy. Though he has no decision this year he was very effective in his start against the Cardinals, just got no run support. Which by the way is what I fear today. He went 8 solid innings, struck out 10 and gave up 1 earned run. No fluke, in his career his ERA is 2.38 against them, no reason to believe he won't keep his boys in the game.

On the flip side Carpenter has had it in cruise control coming down the stretch. Yeah I know they had it clinched but I don't like laying big numbers on a pitcher in hopes he can turn it back on. In his last 3 starts the Cards are 0-3 as a team and his ERA is a whooping 10.57! Throw this in with the fact he went on the DL last year when the playoffs came around with some sort of nerve condition (?) and I think San Diego is a great play. Last I saw it was +182 at Hollywood, might get a little more if you wait. Won't go into it much now but game 2 starter in Mulder has not done much of late either. While STL was cruising the Padres were playing their ass off just to get in, sometimes the mind wants to turn it back on but it takes a couple of games to actually do it. Either way taking STL to win but this series could be much more interesting than people realize. I like the fact Rolen is not playing but one concern today is Pujols used to own Peavy, always dangerous when you play a team that has trouble scoring runs. Smallish lean on the over in game 1 as well.

-------------

Boston/CWS - Overall winner, CWS. Already played them in game 1, think they win today and take the series. More on this series later but I really like the way the pitching match-ups are going to come down for the Sox. Boston and that bullpen is just a nightmare waiting to happen, champs are never as hungry the year after either, someone else steps up this year IMO. More later.

-------------

NYY/LAA - Oveall winner, Yankees. The trendy pick is Anahiem and I can see why. They are just a solid team, they do everything well. In fact I am not touching this game today either way. Doubt I will touch game two either, where I really like the Yanks are game 3 and 4. They should throw Johnson and Chacon in those two games against Byrd and Washburn, I expect them to win both. Probably a split in Anahiem but Yanks will sweep them at home on the way to winning this series. This is both a playoff savvy team with tons of post season experience and a hungry team, very dangerous combination. More later on the Yanks.

-------------

Atlanta/Houston - overall winner, Houston. This was the closest of all the series to call in my opinion. I like Houston and already bet them to win game 1, going to be tough to go against Clemens in game two as well. Astros are having problems scoring runs but their big 3 in the circle makes this a very dangerous team. You are looking at Pettite, Clemens and Oswalt - good luck. Atlanta struggles out in the pen and you can all but count on Cox to give at least one game away somewhere, Astros should advance.

------------

I will update and add plays as the series goes on if I remember. As games are played a lot of things change so this is just an overview of what I am seeing at this moment, things will change as the games are played. For today my card is:

SD +182
CWS -105
Houston +103

Thanks Fisher, sorry to go against your boys. Not that I want them to lose, I just think CWS is in a better spot. Been wrong before though....

Day 1 I broke even with Houston pending on listed plays here, the series winners are so far right on target. In fact other than the Padres which at +182 you are not going to win all them the day was right on. Didn't have enough confidence to pull the trigger but knew to stay off the Angels today and CWS won convincingly. Even the SD over came home I talked about though I did not bet it. For day 2:

Hous +103 (from yesterday)
Anahiem 115

Expected Yanks and Angels to split out west so think Lackey does enough to beat Wang today, probably in the clubhouse after the game too. (;)) Pretty solid lean on CWS again today but going to hold off, just a hunch but Wells going to be very tough today. On Thursday I know I am going to take SD again, hopefully everyone else gets off them now so I can cash a ticket. Just a gut feeling but I really felt they would steal one in St Louis, Astacio can beat Mulder, for the +220 or more we might get I think it's a better play then it was today. Also more than likely going to play Houston again in game 2, will wait and see what happens today but that is the play or I am off the game tomorrow.

Got a solid lean on a total I am waiting on for today, once I bet it I will post it. Good luck guys.

pat you think padres can pull one out with pedro? I thought if they could pull out the first game the second was a maybe.. now im not so sure. they cant hit they cant field and astacio had a good september against sub 500 teams.. I wasgoing to ride the band wagon only on a peavy win..now that he is out the team maybe thinking towards next year.. they know they cant win without him...
Im looking to see what the line is closer to game time..

maybe ill take the pads for ML and the cards on the run line.. I dont see any 1 run games in this series...

Cash, it might be just stubborness on my part, LOL. When I broke down every series I just came to some conclusions on what I thought would happen early in them. Obviously after a game or two the dynamics change but I like to go with what I am feeling, what I first saw when I broke these things down. For instance in the Yanks series I played them to win it all but mostly based on very favorable match-ups in game 3 and 4. I had no specific opinion for games 1 and 2 but overall thought there was a good chance they would split. With the Yanks winning game 1 I like the Angels to rebound here today. That is sort of what I was looking towards doing in that series, playing the loser of game 1 in game 2 based on the pitching matchups and other things.

Anyway when I looked at SD/STL my instinct is St Louis will win this series but they can very easily lose one of these first two games. I thought I would get around +200 on them (this was before the lines came out) and I think that is a play that is a long term winner. Only way to win and bet STL is go 2-0, with SD if I win tomorrow I still post a solid unit + win in the first 2 games. We are going to get a much bigger price IMO (+225 or so) in this game and Astacio has actually pitched better than Peavy coming down the stretch. If we catch the Cards just a little bit content with game 1 or Mulder continues to struggle then we got a nice ticket to cash.

Just my thoughts man, take them for what they are. I am not disappointed yet because my plan in this series all along when looking at the matchups was to play them in both game 1 and game 2. If I split I make a nice profit, still think there is a good shot at doing that even though they will not win this series. Not that I am superstitious but I hope everyone finally gets off the Padres so I can get this win out of the way. ;)

Little problem with your analysis.

The Padres, Angels, and Astros all suck.

Other than that you are spot on.

LOL, they suck? It's not about just blindly betting the best team every game, you have to look at the matchups. Anyway 2-0 for the day, playoff record to date...

3-1, +2.03 units

Great Job Pat:toast:
Was thinking of taking the Astros again today w/ Clemens getting $$ instead of costing me $$...have not seen that for a while. The rain is also my concern. If it rains or is forcasted to rain and the starters have to deal w/ rain delays....we might see the bullpens earlier than last game. W/ that I also have a lean on the over again...just wondering what you thought...

FYI:
Your post on the CWS helped in my plays that I posted...thanks:103631605

Thanks guys, glad some of the opinions may have helped you decide Max.

I agree with you on the Astros today, wrestling with it right now and watching the lines. If I play the game they are the only side I would consider betting. Generally I do not like to bet against a home team possibly going down 0-2 unless it's a no-brainer type of play, makes it easier for me to take the home team with their backs against the wall like Anahiem yesterday or stay off the game. However having said that I think the price is great on this game for Houston backers. You're getting the ERA winner of baseball going up against a tough opponent but one that has had a sore shoulder of late. Smoltz may be fine but they moved him back a start already, can we be sure he's 100%? The other concern for Brave bettors is the bullpen, clearly another solid edge to the Astros IMO.

As for the total I just got no feel for it here. I agree with you though rain could be a problem for under bettors. Hell I don't like to see pitchers just sit in the dugout sometimes for long offensive 1/2 innings by their teammates, when they got to sit through rain delays it makes it worse. When you are talking about some older arms like Clemens and Smoltz that compounds the issue even more IMO, much easier for the younger arms to sit through delays and stay loose than the older guys. I know this is a bunch of mumbo jumbo without any real advice but hope it helps you somehow. I am a clear lean on the Astros for a side and staying away from the total, just haven't convinced myself to pull the trigger yet. Good luck man whatever you do...
