Just got some 80's wrestling tapes I bought off Ebay. Old Memphis Wrestling with Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, Joe LeDuc, ect...man, these things are bringing back some childhood memories.

No cartoons for me on Saturday morning, that was rasslin' day. Memphis, Georgia Championship Wrestling in the afternoon on WTBS with Gordon Solie, Tommy Rich, Roddy Piper, Freebirds.

Got an old Mid-South tape I haven't even started on yet. Ted DiBiase, Jim Duggan, Dr. Death, man, this stuff really makes me miss the good ol' days. I've lost interest in today's WWE product, though I did watch the homecoming last night. Sad seeing Kevin Von Erich as the last one alive from that great wrestling family.

Man that does bring back memories, Gordon Solie and that cheesy, but very hip back in the day, GA Championship Wrestling !!!

Tony Atlas and Kevin Sullivan, The Fabulous Freebirds, the Road Warriors introduction to wrestling, Harley Race winning and losing the NWA title every other week with Flair...

Gordon Solie and that cheesy studio production was da stuff back in the day, it would come on TV here at the oddest times on saturday afternoons..a show like that is so dated now, but it was great stuff back in 1982!

I saw him in there last night, still works for Vince I believe. Still looks to be in great shape.
It was weird seeing Steamboat in there with short, light graying hair. Couldn't figure out who the tall bearded guy was until someone informed me it was Hillbilly Jim

Tony Garea doesn't work for the WWE anymore. (to the best of my knowledge) He did work for them for 10+ years working backstage as an agent (you'd often see him breaking up a brawl or coming in and helping someone who got a beatdown on TV) but I guess he just got sick of the travel. Before I saw him on Monday I was watching an old WWF house show from MSG in the 70's with him on the card on WWE 24/7. (By the way if your cable company offers WWE 24/7 I would totally recommend getting it)

And yes he did hold the WWF Tag Belts with Rick Martel in the early 80's

Yes then they fucked it by having a horrible match against Hulk Hogan at Starcade which was the first nail in WCW coffin.

Finally, a useless irrelavant thread that I like...

The good old days...

Anybody remember Garea and Haystacks Calhoun?

I like the whatever happened too... segments they sometimes do. I would love to see more...

Whatever happened to the ORIGINAL Rock - Don Morocco? The Love Brothers? The Mighty Igor? Dick "the Bulldog" Bowser? "Crybaby" Cannon? Buddy Rogers? Arn Andersen? Tully Blanchard (with Baby Doll)? oh the list goes on and on...

Brings a tear to my eye...

A guy taped them off a DVD to VHS (I think). Very good picture quality. Wish I woulda taped all those episodes, as we had GCW, Memphis, WCCW, Mid-South (for a short time), AWA.

Guess wrestling had to move forward, but I sure miss the "territories".

Arn works backstage for Vince. Was in the ring last night with Dusty and the other legends.
Tully is still preaching I think (He and Baby Doll are supposed to be at some "Tribute to Starrcade" event vs. Dusty w/Magnum TA)
Think Bulldog Bob Brower passed away a few years ago.

Don Morocco: Lives in Hawaii tried to open up a wrestling thing there a couple of years ago that never got off that ground. Heard 5 years ago he was working on a habour but I am not sure.

The Love Brothers: No damn clue. Heard one lives in the Hamilton Ontario area but that is all I know.

The Mighty Igor: Died of a heart attack in 2002

Dick "the Bulldog" Bowser: No Clue sorry

"Crybaby" Cannon: Died of Cancer in 1994

Buddy Rogers: The man who was the reason the WWF came to be. Died of a stroke in 1992

Arn Andersen: Bad neck forced him to retire in the late 90's. Now works as an agent for the WWE

Tully Blanchard: He is a minister now. He goes to prison's and talks to inmates about god.

Baby Doll: Soccer mom basically. Lives in Missouri with her husband and two kids.

The sad thing about the footage from the territores and the reason why there isn't alot to be found that isn't WWF is because alot of these shows that were flimed in the local TV studio had the same tape in the camera and after the wrestling show aired they just rewind the tape and tape over it with next weeks show.

What were the tapes like? Were they taped right off the TV? Interviews and all? I remember "Big Bubba" wearing a suit as a bodyguard for the guy with a tennis racket. It was hilarious as Bubba would always split his pants down the crack of his ass when he got into any brawls.
