Many members of the baseball Hall of Fame were on the bubble at the age of 35. Now that another 162-game season has passed into antiquity, let’s take a look at some of the players in the “35 and older” category whose names will ultimately appear on a Hall of Fame ballot.

I see all bubble's except Rivera and if Glavine can some how get to the magic 300 in two years you could add him......

Thanks

No "bubble" mention of Tim Wakefield?

Wakefield? 144 career wins, most in one season-17. He also has 22 career saves. Your loyality for Boston is clouding your judgement, sir.

I cant believe anyone is even saying Rivera is on the bubble. He is the greatest at what he does in the history of baseball. There are only 10 players in the history of baseball who is or was the greatest at what they do and Rivera is one of those 10. What I mean by this is Starting Pitcher, Relief pitcher 1stb, 2ndbase,3rdbase,SS,Catcher,LF,RF and center field. The 10 positions in baseball.

Smoltz has had a better career than Eckersley IMO when you add in the whole career. Eck gets the nod in the closer role, and Smoltz gets the nod in the starters roll.

Glavine is a HOF if he never throws another pitch the rest of his career. They Guy won 2 CY Youngs and 20 wins 5 times. GEEZZZZZZZZ What more does a pitcher have to do in hitters era to get in?

I agree, Wakefield doesn't stand a chance.

For those that don't know, me stating WAKEFIELD being a HOF'er has been said in jest at the RX for 2+ years.

It originated when I stated that if WAKEFIELD pitches till his 50, which he probably could, he could have a chance on making it. :)

Having said that, the guy has some fantastic accomplishments in a Red Sox uniform............some of which are of the highly "intangible" sort.

I think Smoltz should be considered "in". Went from starter to closer and back successfully. Only twice in 17 seasons was his era over 4.00 (his rookie year and '94 strike year)

Also, I believe the fact that he's spent his whole MLB career with 1 team works in his favor.

On another note, as stated last week, screw the HOF.

No Joe Jackson, Pete Rose, Dwight Evans, or Bert Blyleven there so its nothing but a big farce anyway.

The HOF can BITE ME!!

if Blyleven deserves the HOF then we better find a way Tony Oliva gets there too!

I never thought of Dwight Evans as a HOFer. He is like Bernie Williams, a very solid player, but you don't build a team around either of them.

David Wells and Kevin Browne?

Wow, not many on that list are true HOF'ers IMO...

Rivera is a lock
Smoltz I think is a fringe possibilty who will not quite make it.
Glavine, I would say him over Smoltz .

Wells and Browne, that was a joke right?

I don't even think Mussina is a HOF'er.

I will only be voting for Rivera on that list at this time, If Glavine sneaks up near 300 wins I will probably give him the nod.

Dwight Evans is Fishheads favorite player , don't mind him...he was a very good ballplayer, not a HOF'er...if Jim Rice isn't in, Dwight Evans can't possibly be in.

How Jack Morris isn't in is criminal. Darned good resume. I second Rice and Glavine being in.

JOHN SMOLTZ IS FRINGE???!!!???!!! Him NOT being a lock is a bigger joke than Wells and Browne being considered. He was one of the top starters in baseball, then he went to the bullpen without a whimper strictly because that's where his team needed him and was one of the top relievers in baseball, now he is again among the top starters. JOHN SMOLTZ IS A 100%, SOLID GOLD, CAN'T MISS, ABSOLUTE, MORTAL, PROHIBITIVE FAVORITE, 1 TO 9 SHOT LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW - I agree that Jack Morris belongs there as well.
