shootout was great but the losing team shouldn't get a point.

Why does the losing team get a point? Is this because they basically tied?

randyrohm, yes

in the past each team would have received 1 point at the end of the 5 minute OT.

Now the winner of the shoot out gets an extra point

Agree NHL needs normal standings Wins and Losses none of this Won Loss and OTL garbage. Wins and losses like all other sports and games behind not points

When a player scores in a shootout I hope they dont count it on his goals scored for the season stats.

"like all other sports" is very narrowminded. Actually the vast majority of sports worldwide use points, and "games back" would be a foreign concept to 90% of the world's population.

It's not just an American/Canadian sport either..

Agreed, the shoot out is basically adding "excitement" for the american public.

Give me a break. We've done just fine with out the shoot out for 100 years up north. Just a terrible way to end a game.

wtf is that supposed to mean? adding excitement for american fans? shouldn't their "goal" be to excite their paying customers? (not agreeing w/ the shoot out, but you seem offended that the NHL has American teams)
