How is he a pretender?? First off let me state im not a Red Sox's fan so the homer theory does not apply. The man has two world series rings with the last one being 12 months ago. Each of those World Series he has been lights out in and one can safely say without him Boston and Arizona would not have won.

The man played on a bad ankle that under normal conditions would put someone out of action 12-18 months. From now on he will always have to deal with that fact so while he may be now "exposed and deposed" he was never a pretender since for a decade he was one of the games best pitches to say otherwise is foolish.
