States to set ATM rules for gambling venues
The state and federal governments have agreed to develop a code of conduct to limit ATM withdrawals at gambling venues.
Gaming ministers from every state met in Melbourne today.
Victorian Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos wants the Federal Government to develop a legally enforceable code for banks to reduce problem gambling, including daily withdrawal limits at gambling venues.
"They're responsible for the banking laws, they have the power to do it," he said.
But Federal Minister for Community Services Kay Patterson says it is a matter for the states.
"They're all Labor governments, if they really believe it they can get together and make the decision to do it nationally," she said.
Mr Pandazopoulos says banks are unlikely to support a voluntary code and he is disappointed by the outcome of today's meeting.
