I had Cal +1.5.

Last play of game, UCLA leading by 1.

They could have taken a knee, or let clock run out. A totally uncessary, greedy, in your face play. Of course I was having the worst gambling day of my life even before this incredible bad beat.

I feel for you, but UCLA played the end of this game correctly. They weren't greedy, they need to run 6 seconds off of the clock.

It was 4th down, so they couldn't take a knee and have Cal have a fluke ending.

I second all of this. I was sitting with Cal moneyline. Up 12 late in the game and end up blowing it.

Had Utah +1.70 on the moneyline and they were winning all game. They end up going down 21-17 late in the 4th, but have 1st and goal from the 1 with about a minute to play. 4 chances to get a TD and for my doggie to hit. Needless to say, 4 times and stuffed all 4 times. Loser.

Hope the NFL treats me better tomorrow.

At least UCLA had a reason to score. They needed to run 6 seconds off of the clock, and could not do that by downing it. Toledo, on the other hand......1st and goal and clock running with 1:40 left, up by 20. Take 3 knees and end the game? Oh, hell no, the QB's beer buddies all had Toledo -23, so let's punch it in. :Countdown

Tell me am I not wrong, but couldn't UCLA have handed it to the RB and then had him run backwards for 6 seconds to run it out? Well anyways sucks to lose, but Cal choked plain and simple. Much as they always seem to do in LA, every year its been almost a given Cal is going to find a way to blow a game they should have won. They sure seemed the better team the last two games against SC in LA and they managed to lose both of those as well.

You would never run backwards. No way. A lot of things can happen, and they are all bad.

UCLA did the right thing by scoring.

But since we are saying :finger: to teams, here's one to San Diego St for deciding to not show up today.

That BYU/New Mexico ending was awesome. BYU was dead in the water.

wildbill, it just never seems to fail if you need a team to do the stall, run backwards etc, it just doesnt seem to happen,.....if youe on the other side of the coin,....it just seams like they do the oppisite of this game,...........again,...it looked so exact and real,....but when you look at the way the so called experts lay the line and let it get moved,...it just makes the game seem more like a buisness than a real sport,...............anyhow,...it was a bit of a tough beat by watching it on tv,...hopefully most plays dont have to have the tv drama and off-shores effect them.

Cal should have let UCLA score as with 50 seconds or more left and before taking their timeouts thereby only being down 8 points(assuming the PAT) and then Cal would have time to score a td and 2 point conversion which was their only chance once they had turnover.
I had Cal+1.5 and pick 'em but just sensible game strategy says above is right thing to do to win game.

Honestly I don't buy it. What he did was the riskiest thing possible, he got hit at the one and then with a second effort got into the end zone. It wasn't much of a hit, but if that ball pops out as his guys are run blocking with the intention of getting him downfield a fumble and someone can pick it up and run the distance. Running backwards is simple, you direct snap to the RB, he turns and starts to run. The line blocks likes its a pass. You tell the runner to go no farther than the 30 and then turn back the other way with both arms guarding the ball like its a baby. Worst case scenario is the other team gets a 70 yard shot at you and you literally have less risk than what they did. I am not saying I blame UCLA for doing what they did, but just it was remotely risky while what I suggest has a lot less risk in my mind as long as you assume your player is coachable.

In any case Cal has to absolutely be screaming, they ran for 300 yards with two guys going wild and they found a way to lose. Just like last year where Rodgers hardly missed a pass all day and they still blew it. This team just has to think they are jinxed. In any case its hideous for UCLA and the pundits to say they could have an interesting game against SC. A team that allows the Huskies to run for over 200 yards and then Cal for over 300 yards has ZERO chance of beating SC. That is just laughable stuff. Maybe they can close up some gaps before then, but Bush and White are going to go absolutely nuts on the Bruins.

First of all, a running back is not going to voluntarily give up 50 yards rushing. It's all about the team, but still.....no way. And secondly, there is just no reason to do it. He could fumble, he could run 30 yards and then go out of bounds with 1 second left, etc. It's just not necessary. You run the play, and if you get the first down, or in this case a touchdown, it's over. If not, you defend the hail mary. In my opinion, there is no reason to get radical.

Bill, think about it. These kids are football players, not Rhodes scholars. KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. I don't want to tell a 20 year old kid who probably has ADD to a)give up 40 of his rushing yards that he paid for and will feel in the morning b)tell him to cradle the ball and make sure he doesn't fumble c)tell him to run like hell and make sure he doesn't get caught, and d) watch the clock and make sure it runs out. Disaster waiting to happen, especially since cradling the ball will significantly cut down his speed, and the fact that the defense will all be trying to strip him if they catch him. Just line up and execute.

Haha, spoken like you had money on UCLA there Illini. No big deal, I am about to head on a long ass trip and don't feel like arguing with anyone over it. I suppose you are right about keeping it simple, but what they did was exposing themselves to a bit of a risk. If a safety comes up and pops him on that run and the ball comes loose a corner could pick it up and run with a lot of daylight. Moot point now, I accept the loss because I have gotten a few lucky catches in recent weeks to offset it.
