I think there is value in taking the Cardinals at this #. Almost equal pitching staff (as a whole), with significantly better offense.

As important as pitching is in the playoffs, to win, teams need to produce runs. IMO, as good as Houston's pitching is, they doesn't have a significant enough advantage on the mound to take the series.

I layed (-364) 5 units to take the Cardinals over the Padres. I thought the Padres had no shot in that series.

I also took the Cardinals -175 in the series over the Astros. Houston with their pitching obviously has a shot here but I feel the Cardinals are the far superior team. The hope is that the Cardinals at the very least win Game 1 and I could hedge a little if I feel the need to. The Cardinals won the first two over San Diego and the line went to +1800 for San Diego to win the series. I did not hedge but I may with the Astros series.

Houston will win the series. I had Houston and Yankees in the world series at the beginning of playoff. pays 11 to 1. I think houston pitching is far superior to that of St. Louis. Watch how Andy hold the cardinals to 3 runs or less again in game 1. :suomi:

Bookie Nemisis,

Here Are The Facts On Your Statement.

Best Era In Baseball: Cards 3.49 Astros 3.51
Most Wins By Starting Pitchers In Baseball: Cardinals

How Many Runs Did Starting Pitchers For Cards Give Up In Playoffs So Far? 3 In 3 Games
Houston? Something Like 14 In 4 Games

Their Is A Fallacy That Houston Pitching Is Better Than Cards. If You Going By Big Names Maybe But Stats Don't Lie.

Unfortunately You Won't Be Cashing This Ticket !

FWIW TradeSports has StL right now for around -175, a little more value for ya there

Also very close to a scalping opportunity on TS, I've been watching these long-term pennant odds and every once in awhile they become scalpable. Worth checking out if you do TS!

If St. Louis can win Game 1 there should be a very nice opportunity.

Cards are definitely the deeper team but their pitching concerns me as Carpenter has not been the same pitcher in his last several starts and seems to have lost some velocity on his fastball. Bullpen has also been a little shaky. Astros managed to score runs when they had to against Atlanta. Think the value may be in the Astros for a small play in game 1. Series probably a no play for me.

I played Cards to win the 1st series after they won the first game to cover up what looked like it was going to be a loss on my play of the Red Sox to win vs the White Sox. I have some on the Cards - 144 to win the NL that I bet after game one of the last series. I think the Cards get this one too. Last year Beltran was carrying the Astros with some help from Kent. I think the Cards have an easier time of it this year.

The only reason the mighty 'stros won two (maybe 3) of those games was because of an inept bullpen and in game 4 a lack of clutch hitting (1/17 or so with runnings in scoring position for the Braves... absolutely HORRENDOUS.) The Cards have Isringhausen and, of course, plenty of hitting.
