Okay, I am going to be Mr. Cold & Logical here just to make you think a bit. This may seem a bit distasteful to some, but bear with me.
In a normal year, about 20,000 people in the US die of the flu. This is every year. So, 5 years = 100,000 flu deaths. I don't see Congress in a panic, throwing money at Flu research. It is business as usual.
The 9-11 attacks, however tragic, only killed about 3000 or so people. This is not every year, just a one time event. Huge money and effort being thrown into anti-terrorism programs, an ill-fated invasion of Iraq, to date costing us another 2000 US lives lost as military casualties, almost doubling the initial lives lost. Colin Powell now admits that Iraq had nothing to do with the 9-11 attacks.
If you had one problem killing Americans at a 100,000 per 5 years rate and another problem killing Americans, in comparison, at an extremely low rate which would seem to be the bigger problem? Which deserves the most attention?
My point ... emotions will cause you to think irrationally. Try to think more logically and you will make better decisions both in life and in wagering.
