Seeing the White Sox finally going deep into the playoffs, and this line tonight looking juicy to take the underdog Angels...

Do you take the Angels and root against your beloved team?

This question is for those that still care about their home team, whomever it is...

I remember once taking the Indians vs Baltimore back in the 1996 playoffs (when I still loved the Orioles) and it was an awful strange feeling, I won the bet, but felt really bad watching the game and rooting againts them.

This is even more significant for Sox fans, its so rare for them, they have a legit shot at getting to a World Series for the first time since (I'd have to look it up) I'm guessing its been 60 years maybe...

I'll have to look that up, when the last time they were in the World Series, i know its not been in my lifetime.

I've never bet against my favorite teams even if it is a "lock" to win as many can figure out on the vikings on certain weeks.

Do yourself a favor, wager the moneyline on the opposition if the Viqueens ever make another Superbowl in your lifetime.

Really like to back the Angels here for the nice price but I think they may be out of gas against a well rested Sox team. I'm passing on this one.

Love the Dodgers and faded them all year. Loyalty goes out the window when money is involved.

If you are a true fan, you NEVER bet against your team...$$$ should not be an influential factor if you truly care about your team.

Additionally, it should be equally hard to "cheer" or bet on your most hated rival.

Fishnuts tried betting against Hawkeyes v. LSU last year in bowl game. I told him to take Hawks on Moneyline as they were going to win as 7 pt dogs. Unfortunately, he did not heed my advice although he did stay away from LSU!

The inability to wager against your favorite team(s) will eliminate some good wagering opportunities. Find a vulnerable line and hit it regardless of team loyalty...

He's saying true fans should not do this...many casuals might. You are basically rooting for your team to lose!

AND?

The way I see it is my favorite team(s) are going to lose some games all season, if a money making opportunity presents itself it would be foolish not to exploit it.

It all depends on what one values in life.

I value the enjoyment of my Sat or Sun cheering on my favorite teams more than the 55% to 60% (If I think I had advantage) chance of making 20% (my largest bet) of my gambling bankroll on any game.

I would have a mixed feeling either way of outcome. A mixed feeling cant compare to a true win.

Agree...I care much more for the enjoyment of watching my team and cheering for them to win than cheering for a few dollar bills for them to lose! True die hard fan does not bet against their team!:drink:

Well, put it this way.... If the Cardinals are hosting the Dodgers in mid June and Carpenter is throwing against some L.A. double A farm hand, I know the Dodgers don't have a chance in hell with thier crummy lineup. I can either A) Root for my team (L.A.) and most likely end up disappointed or B) take the Cards - 1 1/2 @ -115 for what should be a juicy blowout win. I choose option B.

We'll just have to disagree on this one...

I have seen a few guys in here complain that gambling on sports has warped their senses when it comes to being a true sports fan of their teams.

Also........ If you stop and think about it, the teams we grew up with and became attached to have in many cases ceased to show loyalty to US.

A bit more difficult to root for the Dodgers of Frank McCourt than the Dodgers of Walter O'Malley.

J'man......... The current Orioles are not the same as those of Edward Bennett Williams are they? And, I would expect not as easy to root for.

I have no problem betting against my favorite team. It's a win-win situation. My team wins, hey that's great! My team loses, hey, I just won some dough! Team loyalty was way more important to me when I was in grade school than now.
