What a shame, umpires deciding a game of this
importance. Not crazy about instant replay in
anything, but it would certainly have helped here.

That was one of the worst calls in baseball history for sure.

Owners need to demand instant replay. Too much on the line.

If the Sox win the series this play will be talked about all off season.

I have a suspicion that a certain ump won't be on the field the rest of this series.

I don't even think you need replay here. Just an ump that is willing to go to the 3rd base ump for a 2nd opinion. That's why they have 2 umps watching. Just like when a catcher asks if a batter went around in his swing.

Nah. Denkinger worked the plate for Game 7 of the Cards-Royals WS in '85. The night after he blew the call that would have ended the series for the Cards. This ain't the NBA where they decide who's officiating 2 hours before tipoff.

He made the right call and rang him up with his fist, and then changed it. You can't do that.IDIOT

After that my Angels +1 1/2 came within inches of going up in flames too! LOL

That was a winner in the end though.

No, he didn't. He made a safe signal right from the start, which is the proper mechanic for "no catch." But it was a horrible call.

He rang him up twice. What game were you watching? Are you an ump?

This is what is being disputed. That is his strike 3 call not an out call. At any rate it was a blown call that cost them the game.

Illini is right. IT was a strike 3 call not an out call. But it was a horrible call.

Wow the head of umpires just came on a press conference and said after looking at the replay it was "inconclusive". What the hell was he looking at?
