"whatever you do don't tell em how much you had on the Sox!"

I think instant replay isnt too far off in MLB, at least in the playoffs after this one. I'm surprised it's not already in use.

Agreed, i think this play tonight will play a big role in tipping the scales in favor of bringing it in.

It's tradition and purity. Bad calls have always been a part of baseball.

Is it tradition and purity or the power of the umpires union?

If you were a judge, would you prefer not to allow forensics to overturn one of your crappy decisions because of "tradition and purity"? Never mind the money I lost. The Angels got screwed royal. As an ump, you should not want that to happen at any cost. Instant replay would have saved you from your worst nightmare, and it would have allowed the Angels to have a fair shot at going up 2-0. Vote yes on instant replay...... Than we can crucify those hamsters when they blow the blown call!!!!

Fuck your wager, nobody cares about that. My team lost the WS on a blown call in 1985. They had plenty of opportunities and blew it, so they can't blame the umpire, even though it was a bad call. That's just part of the game, and they're going to have to accept it and move on. I don't really envision instant replay ever working in baseball, anyway. What, are you going to review every pitch? Every out/safe? Maybe with a challenge system, I could see it, but even with that, this play would never be overturned. It was not clear whether he caught it or not. I agree that it is clear that it should have been ruled a catch, but I repeat.....this play would not be overturned, because even the replay is inconclusive.

Instant replay isn't working in football anyway, its made the NFL game very difficult to watch with money on it...

I hate instant replay.

As I mentioned in another thread, they didn't need instant replay here, just a call to the 3rd base ump like they do with a swing. Doug Eddings called the out and didn't defer to the 3rd base ump. The catcher knew he caught it. If he had any question he would have thrown to 1st.

By the time all the arguing was said and done Eddings had already made up his mind. I don't know if it was too late to ask the 3rd base ump or not but it should have been done.

Of course a challenge system. One or two a game. I disagee, I believe he clearly caught it. I would have overturned that one for sure.

Tonight's play was the kinda shit that really chaps my wick.
I'm still reeling from Kent Hrbek's tackle of Ron Gant in '91.

But it happens.
And I like to think that it evens out. The ones against your team stick out in your mind (FOREVER), while the ones for your team get pushed to the back.

It might sound weird, but I like the fact that bad calls can play a part in the game. Having a challenge system would be a bad thing for baseball IMO.

Logic , simply logic a catcher doesn't just chuck a ball out to the mound if he drops it, he knows immediately....its an instinctive move....the Umpires blew this one big time....

How many times have we seen a catcher pretend he caught the third out and run off the field?

There's really only one reason to have IR in bases......

HR calls. Which side of the fair pole, fan interference, etc.

achallenge in baseball is an awful idea....please don't ruin what is left of sports, the NFL already blew it...they have instant replay and still get the calls wrong, its either the whistle blew and that certain play can't be reviewed or they take 10 minutes and still can't get it right because God forbid it must be 'beyond a shadow of doubt of the original call', instant replay challenges have ruined the NFL.
