I think instant replay isnt too far off in MLB, at least in the playoffs after this one. I'm surprised it's not already in use.
Fuck your wager, nobody cares about that. My team lost the WS on a blown call in 1985. They had plenty of opportunities and blew it, so they can't blame the umpire, even though it was a bad call. That's just part of the game, and they're going to have to accept it and move on. I don't really envision instant replay ever working in baseball, anyway. What, are you going to review every pitch? Every out/safe? Maybe with a challenge system, I could see it, but even with that, this play would never be overturned. It was not clear whether he caught it or not. I agree that it is clear that it should have been ruled a catch, but I repeat.....this play would not be overturned, because even the replay is inconclusive.camy said:If you were a judge, would you prefer not to allow forensics to overturn one of your crappy decisions because of "tradition and purity"? Never mind the money I lost. The Angels got screwed royal. As an ump, you should not want that to happen at any cost. Instant replay would have saved you from your worst nightmare, and it would have allowed the Angels to have a fair shot at going up 2-0. Vote yes on instant replay...... Than we can crucify those hamsters when they blow the blown call!!!!

By the time all the arguing was said and done Eddings had already made up his mind. I don't know if it was too late to ask the 3rd base ump or not but it should have been done.
