Bill Simmons made one of the squarest comments I have ever heard while he was trying to look like a sharp. It was actually about poker but it still applies. He was on the Jim Rome show about a year ago. Rome acknowledged that Simmons was a serious poker player and then asked Simmons how he felt about the poker craze and all the new players. Simmons says he hates them and they are a bunch of Johnny come latelys etc. Then Mr. Poker says "I have been playing for awhile....since Rounders came out."

I nearly crashed my car. I mean are you kidding? That is like a Patriot fan saying he hates all the new Pats fans because he has been a fan since they won their first Superbowl. He thinks he is a veteran because he started playing when Rounders came out? He probably had a problem with bartenders because he has been bartending since Cocktail also.

I predict the Simmons will be a tout shortly and then bitching about all the other touts next year because he has been touting since Two For The Money came out.

:lolBIG: Funny stuff.

The sad part is, that given all the poker newbies out there in this Moneymaker generation, the guy is somewhat of a veteran. When did Rounders come out, 1998 or so? Compared to the newbies (like me), that guy might as well be Doyle. But I see your point. That's like me calling myself a veteran of the Las Vegas real estate scene because I bought a house here two years ago. It's a joke, but it's kinda true.

I love Simmons' writing but he is always off base when it comes to poker. He claims to be a player but in reality he is just your average fish. He mostly just rips on the poker boom and thinks that it is basically all luck. He's not a serious player - I bet he hardly ever plays poker at all. He's much more of a blackjack type of guy.
