Sheeesh. Watching the TBAY game live here on television, so it's the first Shootout I've seen.

What a freaking downer from a spectator point of view.

And no, it's not because BUFF got the win. It was completely uninteresting both ways.

And it clearly devalues the differences between two teams. The team that wins SOs may well be the lesser team more nites than not, but they get double Points for a specific skill set.

Anyone have any feed on why they just didn't call for Sudden Death OT, instead of this snooze solution?

shootout sucks takes the team aspect out of the game, If they want to do something silly to break ties then do 2-1 or even 3-1 breaks would end when goalie or defender shot the puck out of there zone or forced a stoppage

That's what I mean.

On average a team hits OT about one game in 8.

So 10-12 games go to OT and half hit the SO...

A team could pop a 5-1 record when in reality they are .500 or below and that provides a pretty decent skew to the standings.

Hopefully, next major rule change they will send me an email first and I'll tell em what to do.... :digit:

Don't know if you WATCHED the whole game but the better team did win. Tampa's third goal was bullshit and they took three penalties in OT which if you think about it cannot even be penalized properly.

As for shootouts your team does get a point but for the gambler I guess a push is better than a loss. This is great for the fans and crappy for the gambler.

Does suck for gambling purposes but as a fan, i like it. The losing team does still get a point and it is much more exciting and fun than having it end in a tie - and fun & excitement is what sports are all about (to non degenerates anyways).

i like it.. it beats all to hell watching 5 minutes of OT and then both teams go home with a tie .

i think the fans in the stands think its exciting.

i think every offensive player for every team is capable of scoring on a break away. so i dont see where some teams would have an advantage.

They should play until someone scores. I don't like minor league gimmicks.

Definitely a marketing ploy on the part of the NHL to attract fans with some excitement. Definitely different, but if it will help the game overall, as in generating more revenue, I say keep it. I personally am happy that ties are gone and hockey is being played. As far as skewing the standings due to teams with specific skill sets winning shootouts, I am not sure that I 100% agree with this, as every NHL team has 2 or 3 snipers (probably more than that even) that can score goals consistently in a 1 on 1 confrontation with the goalie. Of course, some snipers are better than others, but goalies have as much to do with the results of shootouts as the shooters do, and these are the same goalies that played the whole game. So, I would imagine, teams with good goalies and better snipers win shootouts, which is probably what would happen in a sudden death OT anyway.

I agree that they needed to do something about the ties, but is sudden death OT the answer? Scoreless periods are few and far between with these new rules, but I would rather see a shootout than 20+ minutes of scoreless hockey.

Ties are much better options than playing until somebody scores. We don't need regular season games going 3 OT's. Will they still have the continuous OT periods for the playoffs rather than the shootouts?

Yes, they wouldn't touch playoff OT in a million years. It's the most exciting thing in sports. Plus, if they put shootouts in the playoffs there would be a full scale riot up here (Canada). I know I'd be out in the streets with my pitchfork and torch if that ever happened.

yeah sudden death overtimes in the regular season would be stupid....shootouts are just fine by me....losing team still gets the 1 point and u have a winner at the end of the match
