Big time hoops refs have the toughest job IMO. The speed of the game makes it more difficult than either baseball or football where the action comes in very short spurts.

I would think football because alot of things going on at once, of course there are more refs to handle it, but anything else seems to easy to me....besides, aren't the rules in football (especially in the NFL where they change them evry few minutes) alot to keep up w/?

Speaking of refs/umps.....I watched a story about Don Deckinger (sp?) the other day.....I knew he blew a call in the World Series but never knew he got all kinds of death threats, etc...man some guy even wrote him and said he was going to shoot him ONE YEAR after the game! Crazy people in this world...I really felt bad for the guy...

waterpolo umpires are actually walking right next to the pool....they are not in the water.....

football, the speed of the game, was the knee down, did the defender touch the guy a split second too soon, so many players are split second decisions...

baseball is the easiest and also officiated the best (no coincidence)

Basketball is actually pretty easy - or rather not too difficult

Baseball isn't so hard, either

Done both for a LONG time so i know

As mentioned - water polo must be factored in here since i have been told by those who play what goes on UNDER the water is downright brutal

I would say basketball. Football looks hard, and there are a lot of rules, but once you learn them, it's not bad. You have specific players that you are watching, and it's not like you are watching 22 guys at once. If you have good judgment, baseball is the easiest. Most people couldn't do it, but it's the easiest of the three major sports. Basketball, with everything happening so quickly, the fans right on top of you, I would have to say that it's the hardest. That's how I feel anyway.

Jai Alai Has To Be A Tough One

I think jai-alai is easy to judge, compared to other sports, but is done with the most errors.

Judges are retired players ( on occasion even active players filling in while not in that game.)

You can't go to a jai-alai performance without seeing badly blown calls, esp. under/ over serves. Sure makes it look fixed !

I've seen calls so bad it's mind-boggling. There's little room to make big money fixing a game, but it sure gets votes for being fixed. Players NEVER argue calls.
