Let me say, Last night I sat down for the first time and watched some Hockey, and I did not like what I saw. I grew up playing hockey and played at the college level as well. I have not watched much Hockey other than play-off hockey over the last many years.

I watched scores last night of 9-1 ,6-5 etc. This is not hockey, I remember when you wanted to see defense...I watched most of the BlackHawks game last night and that was not a bad game. The shoot out is ok, But the 4 on 4 during the overtime...Pleaseeeeeeee that is not hockey.....

I would be interested in hearing what other have to say on this.

The game has passsed me bye.........:sad3:

I agree it sucks even Brett Hull retired today. I loved this game in the 80's and early 90's I have taken to the college game more.

Call me crazy but I think it is a big improvement over the Jersey Devils clutch and grab/goalies look like armored tanks style of play that madedthe game so dull not very long ago. So what if one game ended 9-1 there are very competitive games played every night. I very vividly remember the Big Bad Bruins of the early 70's - they destroyed opponets by big scores all the time but fans were crazy for that team..

This game did not suck back in the 70's and 80's...I grew up at chicago stadium with the likes of Bobby Hull, Stan Makita etc..That was hockey, those guys played there hearts out every night. This stuff today 9-1, I would bet you may have a game or two tonight were the score is 11-0..that is not hockey.........G.

4 on 4 has been around for a couple years in OT, why does it bother you now? I think the fans in general love it. The arenas are full and people like the game. The outlet pass is a thing of beauty, the two line pass was a horrible rule to begin with. I especially like they curbed the grinding in front of the net. What was so appealing about a center getting constantly cross-checked or having a stick up his crotch? Some of rules don't do much for me, but the game is much more interesting now. I am sure the game will change a bit in the playoffs, but remember back in the 80s playoff hockey was often 4-3 and 5-4. Its nice to see scoring a part of the game again instead of getting a one-goal lead and then trying to kill the clock the last period.

from a die-hard hockey fan i also agree

gone are the days when the guy in front of the knew he would get pounded and he took that as honor

the new game looks like an All Star game - lots of shooting - little checking - and not fun to watch

I'm with Wild Bill . The new game (aka , the old time hockey) is better then it's been this past decade. Only problem is not much fighting anymore.

The game sucked so bad this decade nobody could watch the game on TV. Hopefully that will change.

The new NHL is a vast improvement over the clutch and grab of the past ten years. Ok, so it's not perfect but lets remember everyone is still adjusting to the way the game is called now. How is 'waterskiing' behind a player while hooking or pinning them against the boards exciting? Look at Hull he was too old and slow to keep up so he retired. By the way if anything is not hockey it is the shootout. It's a skills competition. Do you decide a tie baseball game with a home run derby? I never understood what was so wrong with tie games anyway.

I'm watching Toronto at Montreal and it's a great game. Lots of hitting and up and down action. The new rules are great for the game. I enjoy a good fight but that will come. At least now if your down 2 goals you still have a chance.

The penalties are just out of control. What a waste of a great game. The new "americanized" version is terrible.

Reminds me of Girls hockey in the USA no checking allowed or they call a penalty anytime someone hits someone.

Sadly thats what the NHL has turn into along with the silly shootout at least the shootout wont be in place come playoff time

I love the new game. Things will be different at the end of the year. Fewer powerplays which will mean less goals.

I don't think it's that bad. Just happy it's back. It's new, it'll settle soon enough.

Intent for wanting to have obstruction called - Good Thing
How obstruction is actually being called - Bad Thing (for now)
Elimination of the red line for 2 line pass calls - Good Thing
Allowing interpretation of icing in the case of a missed pass - Good Thing and necessity
Shootout after OT - Unbelievably Bad Thing

Aside from the shootout, I think the changes have been a good thing for the game all in all. It will take the officials time to get things down with the obstuction rules. Don't forget we're only 5 games into most seasons. My hope is that by playoff time things will calm down a bit with the calls.

Much better game to watch than watching boring ass crap like the Wild deep in the playoffs with that slowdown crappy hockey. I am not a big time hockey purist though by any means. Love playoff hockey and following the Kings but not a big time regular season hockey fan.
