Isnt their a rule where another player cant aid the runner by pushing them forward ?

I know it happens all the time when blockers come from behind and push the pile , but it sure looked like Bush pushed Leinart into the endzone ..

He clearly pushed him from behind. But no one's talking about that. The guys on ESPN Gameday were chuckling about it and saying he wasn't suppose to do that but that was about it. No controversy.

So I guess you're not allowed to but for some reason it wasn't a big deal.

Well yeah he would have looked stupid for not going for the FG. But in his press conference he said he did not want to go to OT cause ND was playing to well.

Also don't they say go for the tie at home and win on the road? Well they said for that whole drive they were going for the win. When you're at the one yard line I guess you go for the win and not tie. Gutsy call for sure.

Push Play

Hello
That Is Correct
However I Watched An Extensive Interview With Lou Holtz Last Night
Who Said That In All His Years Of Coaching He Has Never Seen This Called
And Has WorkedBoth For Him And Against.
He Also Noted That This Particular Play Is Practiced By All Teams During The Week. Seems Like A Rule That Is Totally Ignored

I heard comments on espnnews last night from Leinhart himself being interviewed saying Bush said to him your welcome for that touchdown...

i dont get the " we didnt want OT because they were playing well " theory .

is he saying his team would have been at a big disadvantage going to overtime . i dont think so. i think ND would have felt let down knowing they let them drive for a fg to tie..

they got very lucky... if that notre dame db just moves his arms a little or even turns around , that pass would have been knocked down.

talk about threading the needle ..

I can't remember it ever being called in college or the pros, but it is definitely a rule. You are not allowed to aid the runner. Yet you see it all the time when linemen come running and shove the pile forward. They may as well just delete the rule. Only time in my life I can remember it being called is on my high school team on a QB sneak at the goal line when the RB came up and shoved the QB over the goal line, just like Bush/Leinart.

I have seen it callede in pro football at least 5 times, but usually it is not for a touchdown.

How come no one is bringing this up?? When he fumbled the ball out of bounds, he IN DEED was at the 1/2 yard line, but the ball looked to go out of bounds at the 3 yard line to me!

Ball should have been spoted at the 3 yard line

i originally thought the ball went back a few yards, but after seeing it again i think it went out around the 1 . looked to go more sideways than backwards.

I thought the ball went out at the pileon which means it should have been a touchback and game over.
