Asking all officials that may be reading this forum. The ref called defensive holding on the Saints on a missed field goal as the clock ran out which would have put the game into OT, but the Falcons got another chance and won the game.

I was always under the understanding that you could not have a defensive holding call unless it is against a reciever going out for a pass. This is a damm field goal attempt. Nevermind the fact that you could not even see a hold on the replay.

This rant has nothing to do with the pointspread, the kick did not matter one way or the other for either side as far as that goes. I think the Saints got robbed of a shot at OT on a made up rule that does not even exist.

Penalties have GOT to be up this year...I swear they're calling way more penalties away from the action, I have seen so many meaningless penalties its unbelievable.

you can almost predict them .. i have sat here in front cbs sportsline and monitored every game .

it is amazing how many times i have seen a team get inside the red zone or have 1st and goal and watch as a false start or a holding call is called.

it has happened over 20 times today easily..

Actually the penalty did make a difference in the spread outcome. If the FG is no good, Atlanta can cover the # in OT!

Actually, yes there can be defensive holding on a FG attempt.

7 refs on field these days........once upon a time less out there, maybe more things were either missed or overlooked.

Also, since the owners have multi millions invested in the top players, some of the roughness has been removed from the game.

Many of the refs have egos and some probably think to justify their position they have to throw a few flags.

With the games having excessive penalties and television commercials, many of the games have become very boring.

i cant stomach the " blow to the head " calls we see on the qb's ..

i've smacked my kid harder in the head congratulating her on a good report card than i've seen some qb's get hit .. out comes the flag..

put a fukin dress on them....

I can't stand the flagrant hit from the defensive backs, when they launched at a guy who is going up for a catch, it's not like they can predict where they are going to hit the player...

Ive seen 1 million field goal attempts in my life. That was the first ever defensive holding on a field goal I have ever seen. The guy they called it on was not even near the play. It had no effect on the outcome of the kick at all. The flag was not even thrown until after the kick was missed.

I agree. It's tough to tell the difference between a defensive guy pushing an offensive guy to the side and a defensive guy pulling the offensive guy down.

I know alot of people did not get to see the play. If you guys get a chance to watch the highlights on NFL Primetime you will see that the call was total B.S. Watch him the ref throws his flag. After the kick was missed.

Total B.S

Atlanta didnt deserve to win that game.... As for the holding call you dont make a call like that in OT when the game is on the line... I had money line saints tied in with money line Jags so it cost me a few pennies... I guess it all evens out in the end tho because 2 years ago i had the colts in that monday night game against the bucs when they called leaping on Simeon Rice on that field goal attempt to give the colts another shot at the attempt.......

Sure you can defensive hold. If you are the nose gaurd, you can grab the center and pull him to the side and let your linebacker run right up the gut for an easy block.

which is exactly what the referee said was done on this play when he announced the call ....called on #92...we watched it over about 6 times and never did see anything but a regular block...he did knock the guy over pretty good and all i can figure is the ref saw the guy falling away from the play and figured #92 must have grabbed him and tossed him...but i couldnt see where the guy grabbed him at all...either the ref was looking for something to call (highly likely) or he just assumed that the hold had to have happened.......also after the play Hasslett got in the refs face and used the F bomb many many times...my lip reading isnt real good but id swear he called him a fucking idiot....and the ref just walked away.....if he thought he made the right call Hasslett woulda been run

There was no way you could make a call like that unless you were looking (wanting) to make a call like that. Notice how the flag was not even thrown until it was known that the kick was no good? This was purely intentional and the whole crew should get fired. That was not even close to the only bad call in that game. They also called an offensive pass interference that cost the Saints a touchdown where the reciever did not even touch the DB.
