Who ranks as the best college football team ever?

I was in the barber shop earlier today and these three older guys were arguing who was the best college football team they ever saw...

I cannot for the life of me decide who would be the best ever, or the best I ever saw, it's very hard to determine and compare teams as they change each year in cllege football.

Who would you nominate as best college team you ever saw?

The Florida State early/mid 90's teams stand out to me but not sure they would rank as best ever.

Not any of the USC teams of the last 3 seasons.

Miami mid 80's under Jimmy Johnson were the best I have ever seen but my history does not go back as far as most of you other guys on here.

Rozier on the '84 team with Irving Fryar that lost to Miami and lost the National Championship , when Tom Osborne elected to go for 2 points and the win, only to lose by one point.

The Nebraska team with L Phillips and T Frazier. They were a lethal offensive team and absolutely destroyed Florida and Spurrier in Nat'l Championship game at Tempe.

Also crushed Peyton Manning's Vols the year after...that was when Nebraska finally had enough speed to beat the teams down south. :103631605

Winning the Game of the Century is the highlight -- mainly because it's the only close game the Huskers played all year.

In every other game, they won by a margin of at least 24 points.

Just three opponents scored more than one TD!

In my mind it was close between the 71 Nebraska team and the Frazier NEB team in mid 90's tough to choose

A friend of mine who is now a sportsbook manager out in Nevada played for the Gophers when they lost to Nebraska 84-0. I asked him about the game and he was on special teams and second string middle linebacker at the time. Said it was pretty bad and they were good but he got drill an all-american on a punt. Said he just leveled Fryer on a punt. At least he has a good memory from a 84-0 loss. That one point loss in the Orange Bowl was probably the best college football game in history. They didn't have overtime and I give Osborne credit going for two to win.

NS, if it's the game I'm thinking of, it was 84-13 (not that it really matters when it's that bad.

Tom didn't run it up either, it was just one of those things that couldn't be stopped because they were only allowed to travel with so many players.

Too bad Neb doesn't have those kinds of problems now.

I say with a high degree of certainty that the husker team that took the number one ranked gators behind a woodshed with LP and Frazier was a touchdown better than any team in the history of college football. 10 of the defensive starters STARTED in the NFL and the only one that didn't was Terrell Farley who was the best player on the defense but got mixed up in the wrong things a bit. Truly an amazing team. Not one team even dreampt about keeping a game close against them all year long. Still cannot believe the line in the bowl game against the Gators.
