You just knew he was going to deliver tonight eventually. That is likely the series right there.

The Great Game of Baseball is just that.

You see Granny pounding the top of the Stros dugout when Berkman came in?

Boy am I glad STL had that little lead. What fanstastic in-game odds on Houston, got +280, +320 and +380 all with just a 1-run lead. Yeah, fine, I'll buy back at 20-1. :103631605

Got the ingame 380 as well. Very sweet. The Cardinals would've lost to the Braves as well.

Berkman is NL Comeback Player of the Year

Lance Berkman ranks fourth in major league history in home runs by a switch-hitter (358). AP
Major League Baseball is honoring Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman with an award no player hopes to be a candidate to receive.

MLB announced Thursday that Berkman and Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury won the 2011 Comeback Player of the Year Awards.

Berkman, coming off an injury-plagued 2010 season with the Astros and Yankees, batted .301 with 31 home runs and 94 RBIs while ranking third in the National League in on-base percentage (.412) and fifth in slugging (.547). He is the second former Astro in the past four seasons to win the award, joining Brad Lidge (2008). The Cardinals signed Berkman, 35, to a one-year, $8 million contract as a free agent after he batted .248 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs in 2008. Berkman made his sixth All-Star Game appearance – and third start – and signed a one-year, $12-million deal for 2012.

Ellsbury, 28, bounced back from playing only 18 games in 2010 to emerge as an American League Most Valuable Player candidate. On top of batting .321 with 32 homers, 105 RBIs and 39 stolen bases, Ellsbury had a .376 on-base percengage and ranked fifth in slugging (.552). Ellsbury made his first All-Star team and became the fourth player in history to reach 200 hits, 100 RBIs, 35 steals and 30 homers in a season.

The 30 team beat writers from MLB.com did the voting for the award.
