in ST. Louis. What a terrible inning, may be the worse decisions as a closer in history with 2 outs in the 9th and a 2 run lead or for any lead. Walk Edmonds, pitch a fat pitch to Pujols when a little leaguer would have known better. Meanwhile Sanders is on deck.

at least pitch around him, sanders on deck is a stike out machine, also ice cold after a tremendous start to the playoffs!!

can't walk him, it would have put the tying run in scoring position, should have pitched around him...

The worst thing that happened to lidge was Albert chasing the first pitch in the dirt to go down 0-1... After that Lidge got a little to RISKAY!

a little leaguer would have known better??? lol.... I suspect that is the height of most of your baseball playing careers..

lidge was not trying to hang a slider, he was not trying to throw it for a strike even... He made a mistake and albert crushed it...

end of story!

like I said the 0-1 pitch in the dirt that albert chased is what led to the pitch.. if albert lets that pitch go and the count is 1-0 he gets another one low and away... 2-0 then another and another.... his impatience led to the HR...

GO CARDS!

you cant walk pujols in that spot. just had to make better pitches. really, what killed him was the walk to edmonds. edmonds was trying to draw the walk...he wasn't swinging and everyone knew it. lidge could not throw a strike...if he could, odds are edmonds makes an out to end the game.

i agree the walk to edmonds was a huge mistake. i understand lidge hung the slider. lidge should have pitched way around pujols hoping pujols chases. if pujols doesn't chase you take your chances against sanders which was something like 1 for 12 against lidge. you DO NOT let pujols beat you, end of story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no one would ever walk a batter (whoever he is) and put the tying run in scoring position. it just is not done.

Sure it's done. Bonds has been walked before with the bases loaded scoring a run. If the same situation occurs they pitch way around pujols and walk him.

yes you do against pujols, if it happens tonight you walk his monster homerun hitting azz.

as a side note i heard the players were giving a lidge a hard time saying pujols homerun just missed hitting there charter flight. looks like they have the right attitude. astro win tonight.

having the right attitude vs. the cards in st. louie vs. Mulder will not be enough...

oswalt has not done well vs. the cards in the past, tonight more of the same.. after the 7th houston begins saving arms for game 7....

kodi,

The cards are tired and old other than pujols and it shows tonight as Roy O rips their hearts out.

Only two teams in history have ever lost a game in which they were one strike away from winning a postseason series -- the 1986 Angels (Game 5, ALCS) and the 1986 Red Sox (Game 6, World Series). Both had second chances to undo their disasters. Neither won another game.

cards BIG!
