It appears baseball could benefit from it and baseball would be the easiest sport to implement a viable replay system.

I am a proponent of instant replay as it is impossible for game officials to correctly make every call.

This forum never lacks opinion, so wanted to ask what others think about baseball having replay.

Obviously, replay would not be used for ball and strike calls, but could be used for plays at bases, homeplate, fair/foul, and some homeruns/fan interference.

I am with you, and would go even further. I think baseball should also have players wear sensors on their knees and elbows when batting, and sensors should also be added to each corner of homeplate and to the ball. There is new technology called RFID which are microscopic sensors, which no one can see or feel.

The ump should wear a special visor so he can "see" if each pitch gets part of the strike zone. That way, there would be absolute objective uniformity in calling balls and strikes. TV viewers could also "see" where each pitch hits in or out of the zone.

Of course, baseball purists would blanch at this "playstation" approach to the game, because they will argue the subjectiveness of each umps strike zones is part of the charm and tradition of the game.

If all four or six umps get together on controversial calls to discuss, it might not be necessary. They've overturned the initial wrong call many times in the past after having a pow-wow. But even with replay, I'm not convinced that the third-strike Angels incident would've been conclusive enough to overturn.

I do think it should be automatic that all umps get together to discuss a controversial play, and I'm not sold on replay when it comes to baseball. Who wants extra delays?

baseball should have some form of replay...atleast for homeruns and foul balls, close plays, etc.

I will say the Umpiring in both LCS has been downright terrible! These umps are getting worse and worse and are starting to factor into outcomes of games. Officiating in the NFL and NCAA football has been really bad as well. Evidenced by flags thrown at the highest rate ever in NFL. USC-ND game...how does USC get PAC10 officials at South Bend?? New Orleans screwed on the FG this weekend. There has been bad call after bad call this year. Hope it gets better!

Some guys have egos is why your idea, while great in theory, would not always result in plays being correct.

New umps that see something may choose to not override an abrasive veteran umpire. It is very competitive to be selected as MLB umpire, and I am sure alot of large egos among the ranks.

PPeter has great idea of some type of electronic system for balls and strikes as that way pitches called by rule rather than umpires calling game as they choose or have errors as nobody can correctly call every pitch.

I believe Illini has umpired baseball, so he may further elaborate this topic.

WOW.......USC/ND game was on my second screen, so game was muted. That is incredible ND allowed a Pac 10 crew to officiate that game. Should have brought in a crew from non-BCS league to work the contest.

Did not know that Viking and that should not have happened. Also, game like that should have been under replay system.

Definitely should've had replay. It was Carrolls decision...he knew he'd have his homer refs on his side so he declined replay. I don't care one way or the other as i dislike Notre Dame and am happy to see them lose anytime. USC would not have had the ball at the 1 yard line though with replay.

I knew Pete had declined the replay and now I know why. SBC or conference USA officials should have been used for ND/USC game. Pac 10 officials should not have been used.

Tens of millions riding on BCS game, so no way in hell league officials are not going to be a bit biased toward who assigns their schedule and signs their paycheck.

Baseball probably the same was as NBA...certain pitchers, players, and teams either get or dont get certain calls.

TOTALLY BULLSHEET FOR BASEBALL TO NOT HAVE A SOLID REPLAY SYSTEM.

Good thing Phil Cuzzi not behind the dish last night...Edmonds would've struck out on 3 pitches instead of the walk to set up one of post season's greatest HRs!!!
