Dutch went nuts, not sure if anyone else just saw on ESPN the story of his last year since doing well two years ago.

He is mentally lost it, which is interesting to watch being a gambler as well. You can somewhat relate....but he has a bi polar disorder that is gaining treatment

and Moneymaker looks like he has lost or spent all his cash, and is looking desperate.....like bad puzzy and bad bets.....

I never plaed poker for money, and have no desire to ever starting.....just does not interest me the slightest, but I love watching the mindset of the gambler in general......because I can relate

But I can tell you one thing, if I was Chris Moneymaker and came into that coin.....I would have walked from the cards

and gone SPORTS.......and never worry about money ever again. Picking is not as difficult as some make it out to be.....it is the Capital making Capital

Just some thoughts as I watch the WS of Poker behind the scenes

newport,

when moneymaker won the wsop he was staked by several people...i am not even sure if he won 1/2 of the 1st place himself...after taxes probably not enough to just sit back and relax on....i have played ring games with chris several times.....he is what you would call a "maniac" at times....straddling blinds, over betting pots, reraising on a 2nd nut draw....i have seen him run over some tables but in the end i would say a definite "loser" in the long run...i once played a 10-25 no limit game with chris and about 3 of his buddies from tennessee....he was by far (and i am not exagerating) the least skilled player at the table...after about 20 hours most of us had long since taken our winnings and moved on but chris kept playing and eventually got most of it back...i agree though, he looks aged...he does play sports also..nice enough guy, but i bet he has been broke many times since his historic win.....i appreciate what he did for poker.....my poker winnings have been unbelievable since chris opened the door for so many unskilled and novice players...long live "moneymaker"!!!

He was broke within 3 months. I can attest to his lack of skills I took him for more than a fair chunk of change in Vegas, then when he came to Cal took him for a little more :), and I wasn't the only one.

Boyd I guess has some bipolar disorder, or at least that is whathe is caliming. Supposedly on Lithium. I just can't belive he had the balls to walk around after he stiffed so many guys at his defunct site. Figured a few people would want to get him.

But like I say guys that scam do it because noone has the balls to do anything about it after it happens.

I didn't watch the WSOP coverage. Did they talk about Boyd's involvement with the PokerSpot scandal? They managed to leave that out in years past.

They kept saying he got a seat by winning an online tournament with a $40 entry fee. If that is true, how could he possibly be staked by several people. Another thing, who in their right mind would stake this guy, let alone several (unless they're giving him 5 bucks each).

newport, i agree with you totally...if you win that coin in poker, you gotta walk, because, more than likely you will lose it back. you will get into bigger games, with inflated confidence and blow it...i watch it on tv, to remind myself to stay grounded!

Chris Moneymaker did win a $10,000 entry for $40. He sold shares of the $10K seat, in case he bombed in the WSOP.

Chris Moneymaker is the best that that has ever happened to poker.

What kind of idiot would buy shares in an unknown poker player at that time. What an investment that turned out to be for the investors.

Interesting. I wonder how much he got for those shares.

He and Raymer have a deal with PokerStars so I am sure they stake him in tourneys and pay him something on top of that. He probably isn't as broke as you think...this article is very recent and provides a lot of insight. I am sure he did suffer some losses as all poker players do...I am not doubting some of the stories posted, but I do think sometimes the guy gets hammered about his game (or lack thereof) way too much.

Good article about a nice guy. I don't expect to see him back at the WSOP final table (like Harrington or Chan), and he certainly was plenty lucky in 2003, but he's much better than average and has scored well in a number of big toruneys since his WSOP win. From watching him play online it seems to me that he's branching out into other games. It would be a riot if he found out that NL Holdem wasn't his best game...

RE: Moneymaker

I agree that Chris does look stressed out while playing. Most likely he has spent most of his winnings on high limit games and like Stu Unger, bad bets at the sportsbook. After reading the above article, I'd say it's a safe bet that his gambling problems is outside of poker and that he probably is overextended financially.

His win at the wsop is still an amazing story and great for poker.

say what you will about MM - but i saw a special on ESPN "Final Table w/Chris Moneymaker" and that changed my thoughts on him

he was REALLY sharp at the table and perceptive

for instance one of the [layers - i wanna say Amir Fahidi - MM noticed whenever he bluffed his arm would twitch when he put in chips and that helped me run Amir out. And with San Farha he noticed when Farha put his chips in with his right hand he had a good hand and when he did it with the left hand he was either bluffing or the hand wasn't as strong

give him credit for that

i heard his father and a friend put up money for MM's expenses in exchange for each getting 20% of MM's winnings - not knowing he would win it all. supposedly he thought about selling his seat because he didn't have the money to play in the WSOP as far as expenses. the article says he is married but i thought i read how he and wifey were getting a divorce - so is this the same woman or a new wifey?

regardless - Chris Moneymaker is THE BEST thing to happen to Poker and the WSOP - maybe in the history of the game (DO NOT call it a Sport - for it is NOT a "Sport") and the massive numbers every year at the WSOP and all tourneys have a lot to do with him and people thinking, "If he did it - so can i!"

That was funny.

Seeing that hand where Phil lost most of his chips to Pittman, who drew a Jack on the river, was hilarious. He blows up at him and then walks away. Pittman says to the rest of the table, "What a cry-baby". Then Phil goes all in, loses to a pair of 7's and storms out of the place.

Helmuth is so arrogant. I hope he never wins a bracelet again.

Hey if there were a 10k put up for a sports book contest, I think people would invest in me and others that have a strong reputation. Chop people would invest in you in a baseball contest!! So, how do you not know he was well known with an internet name like Choptalk or Newport!!

The only reason we have to make our own contests up on the RX is because it is still ok to watch degenerates play poker on TV and act like mental looneys (I love watching their minds though) but if we were to watch a show about a contest of sports bettors, the media would crush it, and redicule the whole thing.....they would say we are tainting the purity of sports!! ESPN is cashing on this coverage, but it is ALL OK, because it is poker in Vegas. I will be putting my 10k if their was a televised sports gaming contest!! Oh yea!!!

Yea I missed the end of the show, got the big screen taken from me for a "amazing race show" LOL So he was out in the first day...WOW!!! Hey cards are cards, and when you have small money to start.....I would say you have to only play your best, and let others drop out on bad offensive moves, What do I know??? But I do know sports, and I gurantee I will be on tele with my cash in hand if they have a national series of sports betting ALL IN!!!
