I just went into my Neteller account to find it is closed...I call to ask why and they say because I made a transfer to my friends account and we used the same computer, both our accounts were closed for security reasons. I said fair enough and answered her security questions to reopen my account. She then tells me, anytime we do that again, our accounts will be closed. I ask why in the world that would be and she said because you cannot use the same IP address. I tell her, if you look at my account history you'll see we sometimes are on the same computer and sometimes not. He is my FRIEND so is it odd we would be at one another's house? She responds tat since we have different addresses we should be using different computers....:icon_conf

I'm all for security but if both him and I say it's OK, why should they have a problem with it.....

Sherman: That's a joke, I use my wireless with my neighbor all the time and it has the same IP Address. These security issues scares me with some of these oufits. Your money is in their hands and it seems that they can do what they want at any time. I tell you, it's a joke.

Sherman,

Her reply sounds like BS. Both my wife and I have separate Neteller accounts which we access on the same computer and have transferred funds between. It sounds more like using the same computer to transfer caused a potential fraud alert which was resolved by the phone call but it should not preclude you from doing it again in the future. FWIW, our accounts do show the same physical address so maybe we get an exception?

It would seem this would happen often, they need to have a better measure, I suppose though, they are now so big they don't care about losing a few fish...that is a shame.

I don't see how that's possible...if the funds aren't there, the book would lose out not Neteller.

I'm sure this is to protect you from someone coming in and clearing out your account. Their software probably isnt sophisticated enough to allow you putting in a waiver so it will keep being redflagged everytime it happens. Since you know now what will happen, just dont do it. Goodluck and I hope this is all resolved to your satisfaction. JMHO.

One of neteller policies from the very beginning back in 98 (or 99) was that they do NOT pass the chargeback to the merchant

this only makes sense because since the merchant doesnt get any info on the customer like ips, creditcards etc .....its next to impossible to do fraud control

so neteller takes charge of the fraud control (And also are liable for cc chargebacks .......or when they take the risk on the EFTs instafunds)

i know its more convienant but...if you see your friend everyday or when you have to transfer money...just give him the cash or whatever and let him put it in his bank acct and do it from his own neteller acct...just a thought

i keep a ton in neteller and I love that they stop anything that they consider to be possible bad. even if it means losing a few good customers who are up to nothing bad. its a hassle but you can get your person to person transfers done in a different manner.

Doesn't make sense since you already told them that you're friends.

If you need to in the future use a proxy or remote desktop to your friends computer.

I don't want to blow it out of propotion, but sometimes we are at each others house and make some transactions for various reasons.....I think that should be OUR business, NOT theirs...

Dante, it's good that they look into that type stuff, but they looked into it, found out everything was cool and yet still told me it will happen everytime....so why do they have all those security questions? I answered everything she threw at me.....

My daughter was at my house for a vacation.

I moved funds my account to her account.
She logged in from the same computer and both accounts were immediately locked.

Took one phone call and a couple of days to unlock the accounts.

Next time she can use the laptop.

I have emailed a copy of this to a contact i have at neteller....

He has told me in the past, that they were asked NOT to post on the forums themselves, but he can take a look at it, and let me know any info that might help, and i will post it here.......

Got this response from one of the operations managers at neteller....he told me it was fine to post it here........

Hey Bucs, (You can post if you like)

Some good points raised on that posting.

We do sometimes close accounts that have sharing IP's. It depends on the history of the account in most cases. We see Fraud Rings use the same IP as well as Bonus Hounders. We do our best to try to control both of these situations. Now, if the client has an explanation that they are visiting, etc, we try to open these accounts as fast as possible. I will refresh Security to try to deal with these explanations faster. I did not like seeing it took us 2 days to open the gentleman's daughters' account. I fully understand and support IP's matching even when the address isn't the same. We just need to verify sometimes.

Hope this helps.
