This going to be harder than beating the Cards IMO..

They have the pitchers and time and time again I have seen great pitching beats great hitting. Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Roy Oswalt match up favorably with any Big Three of the CWS and Brandon Backe is no slouch in the fourth spot. Jason Lane, Chris Burke and Houston's kids experienced their growing pains early in the season, when the Astros were limping along at 15-30. Now they're playing with the confidence of veterans.

There are a few keys to this series:

1. The Astros must be able to take 1 of the 1st two in Chicago. As we saw in their series w/ LAA they did not do well after a rest, while the Angels running on pure emotion beat them to take the 1st game.

2. Play Small Ball: The team that best executes this will win the series. The Astros have played this way all year and should do well here. The concern is for the White Sox when they play w/out the DH in MInute Maid park. This is where Garner is better than Guiilen, having to do the double switch. Garner is more experienced in this and the CWS bullpen could be called in earlier than expected forcing Guillan to pull a pitcher faster than usual.

3. What about the Bullpens??:
The Houston bullpen is solid w/ Wheeler, Qualls and Lidge. Chicago's relief corps comes in with a full two weeks worth of rest. That's just too much for this late in October. Brad Lidge converted 42 of 46 save chances during the regular season and was close to unhittable for extended stretches. Chicago closer Bobby Jenks has dominant stuff, but he never appeared in the ALCS and he's about to enter the kind of pressure cooker he has yet to experience. The Astros bounced back from Lidge's gopher ball to Pujols. How will the White Sox respond if Jenks blows one?

4. Will Houston be satisfied w/ just a WS appearance?? Thats the big question here and could de the down fall for my astros.

5. Where are the runs?? I have a feeling that the over will hit the 1st 2 -3 games and then the under should be a winner the rest of the series. The Astros are 5-7 vs the CWS but have not played each other since 2002. The White Sox, led by Paul Konerko, banged out 200 homers, while the Astros hit 161 during the regular season. Scott Podsednik (59 stolen bases) and Willy Taveras (34) are top-of-the-order troublemakers. The White Sox consider third baseman Joe Crede a Gold Glover, but Taveras will challenge him with the bunt.

6. Everbody and their mother is on the CWS and I know what that means...Take the Astros because it never fails...when everyone is on a team...fade them...you win more $$ that way..

JMO and Go Astros!!!!!!!!

My Pick: Astros in 6 or 7----Going to play both

This year's World Series will be between a team that has never been there against a team that has not been there in 46 years. There has been only one other World Series between teams that each had not appeared in the Series in the previous 20 years. In 1948 the Indians (in their first appearance since 1920) beat the Boston Braves (first Series since 1914).

Nothing seemed to bother Oswalt, nor any of the Astros. On the flight from Houston to St. Louis, after Pujols' stunning home run in Game 5, the pilot -- cued by some member of the team, in all likelihood -- announced that if you looked out the left side of the airplane you would see Pujols' home run zooming past. The players laughed, as loose and circumspect as ever, something that Morgan Ensberg believes has roots in the team's 15-30 start in April and May.:103631605

I am with you on the Astros. They simply have better pitching.

Qualls is on fire too, hasn't he sat down 14 consecutive hitters?

You guys are underestimating the W. Sox pitching...There 4 starters are now as good as the Astros. Astros have the names Clemens, Pettite etc. I agree I'am not sure about the bull pen with all the rest they have had. But Hernadez sure pitched a hell of a few games, He could be a 4th or 5th starter and most teams. And he his healthy NOW.

Hitting I would say they are pretty equal.

I think the Home Field will play large here with the sox in 6....

Good Luck it should be FUN..............G.

Wow G.Money you have me rethinking this now. Hernandez has awesome stuff right now, and that home field is certainly a big factor.

Well, this is why these threads are good.

Dude you are suck a fucking homer.. LOL

Why list all these bullshit reasons you think they are the play?

Why not just say you want them to win because they are your team.

Quallls, Lidge, and Wheeler a SOLID bullpen? Solid my fucking ass. Were they solid in may when the Astros were 15 games behind first?

When the hell were they ever solid prior to mid-september?

Again your post proves you know nothing about bases. The Astros had the best record in the whole MLB after they started 15-30 dumbass. The bullpen was one of the best in the majors this year...only behind STL...whom we beat last night.

Ok whatever you say master of the homers. Ya so solid that houston's retard of a coach left Oswalt in past 115 pitches.

I feel like saying Houston will get exposed. However they have been exposed for the last 40 years.

Houston had a great run, but they are done now. Sox have the karma on their side for sure. May not come back to Chicago.

Hey RailTurd.... So after that Shitting pitching performance by the W. Sox, do you still think they have no chance. Well you have to figure Clemons is done for the series even if the extend it. The W.Sox bull-pen which was the big worry here in Chicago because of all the time off, Proved in this game no big deal. In fact Jenks was close to 100mph on almost all his pitch's. If the W. Sox win tonight (game 2) The sox may very well sweep this series, If they lose it will go 6...........Good luck..........G.

Recap:

Was hoping for a split in Chicago but it was not ment to be. Both these teams have the ability to come back in any game. The bull pens have not been GREAT at all and it will be interesting to see how Jenks does the rest of the series since he blew the save in Game #2.

So far the over is a winner in the 1st 2 games as I said it would when I started this thread..

5. Where are the runs?? I have a feeling that the over will hit the 1st 2 -3 games and then the under should be a winner the rest of the series.

Still expect this to be true. I expect the over in game # 3 and unders the rest of the way...JMO
