I have Basketball on my mind. The Blue Ribbon College Annual and The Killer Sports NBA Annual will be showing up from GBC on my door step later today. I have noticed a lot of very good threads this year on the subject of Football Teasers. I was wondering if anyone is up for a discussion on Basketball Teasers. Something that can be very helpful to both the newer players/members here at the Rx as well as longtime players. Maybe some of the do's and do not's
of playing Basketball Teasers. I think this could be very beneficial for the upcoming season.

I am not trying to be funny here, but I strongly suggest you take a close long look at NOT playing basketball teasers...EVER!

I have done a great deal of research on teasers in the NBA. Would be glad to have a discussion about them. Fire away.

Con: Because you're hooking up at least two teams for a lousy 5-7 points. That means nothing in the NBA. I don't like them.

My research has shown that the average value of a 4.5 pt teaser is an increase of approx 16% to your win rate. I have done this by teasing as many different situations as I could think of, such as if I teased every home team, away team, home fav, away fav, teams that played the day before, etc, etc. You get the idea. The value ranged from a high of 19% to a low of 13% but most were in the 16% range and the 13 and 19 were just statistical variations within the standard deviation. When adding them all together it was around 16%. Now being that it is necessary to win 2 games to win a teaser it would be necessary to have a win rate of 71% for each leg to hit the break even point. .71 x .71 = .5041. The book I use pays even odds on a 4.5 side and 6.5 total. Very few books offer good odds like that. Therefore to have success playing a teaser you have to be able to handicap games at a 55% win ratio or better. My research has also shown that the bookmaker does an amazing job of making most situations come out close to 50% each year. In other words the home team will cover approx 50% and likewise the road team. Same for most other situations. Questions?????????

some of the pros i talk with suggest the points dont mean enough in nba. if a team can score 6 points in 10 seconds what does a teaser mean.I do lots of 10 point teaser in nfl and have had good success. i jsut did cinn, new eng andpitt for this weekend. am interested in other thoughts.

I wouldn't mess with BB teasers, but have done well betting "action points" at 5Dimes.

Hell no to NBA teasers.

One reason is the amount of games these chimps play. You have no way of knowing which teams are going to give their best effort.

If you play teasers play the 6 point teasers at - 120 at Millennium and only play sides that you can tease favorites down to 1 or 2. Most 7 or 8 pt favorites win the game by 2 or more, so if you pick your spots carefully you can win on teasers. But only play down to 1-2. Nothing else.

are college b-ball teasers any different that nba?

I wouldnt tease college games as the scores are much more volatile and the 4 or 5 pts isnt going to make that much difference. JMHO. No research done on this one.
