NEWPORT BEACH, Ca. – Iowa senior linebackers Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge have been named quarter-finalists for the second annual Lott Trophy, presented by The IMPACT Foundation of The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Ca.
Greenway is a 6-4, 244-pound linebacker who is a returning All-American from Mt. Vernon, S.D., leads the nation in total tackles with 109 and serves on the Hawkeye Leadership Council. Hodge is a 6-2, 234-pound linebacker from Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., who has 100 tackles, second most in the country, and serves on the school Leadership Council.
Both players have been named Big Ten Defensive Players of the Week at some point this season. They are both among Iowa’s career tackle leaders. Iowa is the only team to have two players make the quarter-finals.
The other quarter-finalists are linebackers A.J. Hawk of Ohio State, Brandon Hoyte of Notre Dame, D’Qwell Jackson of Maryland and Moses Osemwegie of Vanderbilt. In its second year, The Lott Trophy honors the college football Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. The student-athlete is judged on both his on-field performance and his off-field performance. The Lott Trophy is the first sports award based on personal character and is appropriately named after the legendary defensive back, Ronnie Lott. Last year's winner was David Pollack, the All-American defensive end from Georgia.
Semi-finalists will be announced Nov. 11.
