In our lifetimes..Lets just say over the past 30 - 35 years, most of us would have either been kids back then or not even born yet....

Which region has been the most fortunate to its sports fans by having the most winning teams in comibined sports , including college .

For starter we have New York, the Islanders great run , the Yankees, Giants have won a couple SB's, Syracuse Orangemen in basketball, New York has so many teams, I wonder if most NYC fans follow al the teams or have an alliance to one over the other...

Chicago has had either great success or misery it seems there's no in between with Chicago sports teams...

Would like to hear other fans mention their regions and what its like being a hometown fan :drink:

Here in Maryland we've had the *great (Orioles success)
the good* (Maryland basketball) has been very entertaining over the years, finally winning the big one a few years ago, and have always had a nice winning tradition (Ravens have been good to the city, winning a Super Bowl)

the *bad (what has happened to the Orioles)

and the absolutely *unthinkable (losing our beloved Baltimore Colts)

Also baltimore lost the Bullets several years ago...I don't believe Baltimore would have lost the basketball team in this era...nothing like losing the COLTS though.

though I don't live there but Cleveland never wins anything and have had some really bleak years with the Indians and Cavs of the 80's.

FSU 2 NC's, Miami like 5, UF with 2
Marlins with 2 world series
Plus florida has had it's pro sports teams for a very short while (except Dolphins and Bucs)
Panthers did make the SC finals. Lost to avalanche.

For a 4 sport city we've had a horrible run here in Philly. Nothing since 1983 if you exclude Nova's NCAA win in 1985. That's 84+ seasons of no championships.

Wunderdog, you forgot an NCAA Baseball crown for Pepperdine and USC in the last fifteen years, and Harrick's UCLA Hoops title.

LA hands down!..never far between a title of some sort..not that most anyone there really notices or gives a damn.

Seattle hasn't won a thing professionaly since its lone title for the Sonics in the late 70s and had to endure some horrendous teams, especially a baseball team that took 20 years just to have a winning season! Few other places in the country can have bumper stickers that say "Visualize...World Series". The Huskies football team has been the lone bright spot, but oh is that so bleak these days. You know things are bad when everyone talks about the WNBA team since they are the only one who wins titles these days.

If you are talking about any individual decade it would be hard to beat Pittsburgh of the seventies. 4 superbowls, 2 world series, 1 college football national champion.

The City of Champions :toast:

Pittsburgh isn't exactly a massive region either...

Worl Titles in WS71, SB75-76, SB79-80 and WS79 quite a run:drink:

Two at the expense of the Baltimore Orioles :sad3:

Actually I have to take back some of Philly's woes. Smarty Jones did win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness only to be upset by Birdstone in the Belmont Stakes.

Not to mention Dodgers, Lakers, and UCLA (under Wooden). Throw in Pepperdine nand UCLA for volleyball.

Phoenix didn't have anything (other than Arena football) until the Diamondbacks won in 2001.
