Broncos player injured in multi car crash

AURORA - Denver Broncos offensive lineman Dwayne Carswell is in critical but stable condition and is undergoing surgery for serious injuries sustained in a chain-reaction accident Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 7:10 a.m. Thursday. Sky 9 captured video of the crash from above the scene.

Police say a Volvo driving northbound was cut off by a Grand Am driving in the same direction. The cars collided and went into southbound traffic hitting three additional vehicles. Carswell was traveling in one of the southbound cars.

"In no shape or form was Carswell the one that caused the accident," Aurora Police officer Tony Guzman said.

Carswell and another woman were transported to Aurora South Medical Center.

The woman who was hospitalized along with Carswell was treated and released.

Carswell, 33, is in his 12th year in the NFL. He caught two touchdowns in the game against Jacksonville this year. He played his college ball at Liberty University.

I always thought it was very interesting that this guy played TE his whole career in the NFL and this year he has become an offensive lineman. You don't see that very often.

He is an OL in theory only. Rarely plays like anything other than what he is, a large TE with decent blocking skills and good hands.

Colorado's traffic is a joke, roll over and problems every day, even on a clear dry day....

Hope he's ok..

#1 you wouldn't believe how much that area has exploded. I'm up towards Boulder & can live with my reasonable drive to downtown Denver.

Ruptured spleen-removed, torn diaphragm, several broken ribs & bleeding in the chest cavity.

Critical but stable-expected to fully recover, but obviously out for the year.
